I talked to coach Woods today and he stays in close contact with Derrick Pegues, one of the top rated players in MISS. and rated 9 on Rivals.com DB. ( defensive back ) this is a low rating in my opinion. He is still undecided but says he will make a decision after he visits all schools. Coach Woods says his list is ( in no particular order ) Michigan, Bama, LSU and UT, ( vols ) Ole Miss ( close to home ) He did meet with Ole Miss last week. New coach at Ole Myth say something he liked. this guy gained 1200 yards as a QB in High school his senior year and the two tail backs gained 1000 yards also. He can flat out run ( ask fanatic ) and is reported 4.4 speed but he wants to play corner back, or Db somewhere. This guy is a horse and you can see him play corner back next weekend on ESPN 2 because he will be in San Antonio to play for the All american High school team. He would be a seriously great pick for us at LSU. I put in a good word for LSU and sort of teased coach Woods ( 46-1 in the last three years @ 5A HS ) that he should have been considered for coach at LSU. :hihi: John Jerry DE another stand out at South Panola is undecided also. Reported to be courting Miss State, Ole Miss and Bama. the whole team is loaded, finished ranked 7 in the nation out of all 5-6A High schools, LSu should recruit this area because OLE MISs certainly isn't. :thumb: From MISs Prep web site. Tennessee is bracing for a big recruiting weekend before turning the focus to preparations for Texas A&M and the Cotton Bowl. The Vols will play host to nine official visitors this weekend, one of whom is versatile athlete Derrick Pegues from South Panola, Miss. He’s fresh off leading his team to the Class 5A state title in Mississippi, and ready to give recruiting his full attention. Batesville, Mississippi (South Panola High School) cornerback Derek Pegues spent the weekend in Knoxville on his first official visit. Pegues had the Vols at the top of his list when he traveled to Rocky Top so where are the Vols on his list now? Alabama head coach Mike Shula was out in full force Wednesday night, as he visited one of the Southeast's top prospects in Batesville, Miss. athlete Derek Pegues. Pegues projects as a top-notch running back or defensive back at the next level. After Ed Orgeron was named the head coach at Ole Miss on Thursday he wasted no time in getting on the road recruiting some of the top targets on Ole Miss' recruiting list. Stop number one was Batesville, Miss., home of the state champion South Panola Tigers. Batesville is home to three first team all-state players from 2004 including John Jerry. Jerry and Derek Pegues were the first players Orgeron met with last Thursday.
I hope Miles gets list of all these players, I know it's late in the game to start adding players to your scout list, but coming from OSU I doubt he has much insight into Miss. besides Saban's players.
he can find it all on rivals.com and pelican preps .com and magnolia preps.com the web does his homework for him. that guy Jerrel Powe is the number 2 player in the nation from Meridian MS. here is a link to his stats on rivals.com rivals folks I know Texas and LA. is ALWAYS loaded with talent but MS is right up there if you look at the popualtion base. we need to get these guys, they are going to go to Croom if not. AND they WOULD play for LSU. Most of these young men want to play for a GREAT SCHOOL. !
I pray coaches don't take rivals' and scout's ratings for advice. If they do, that would explain why more 1,2,3 star players are in the NFL now than 4/5.
True but I've seen alot of these players that I am listing play and you can sorta trust me. I'm no coach or scout but when they keep making the papers and EVERYBODy is sending scouts and nodding their heads yes uh huh yeah i like him then it's a safe bet. ALSo notice that some of the players I've listed are 3-4 star not 6
you and I discussed pegues quite a few times pre-recruitment. Ive seen him a couple times and hes quite the player as you stated even at the SEC level. i know he got in some trouble early on this year at starkpatch but i guess hes ok now. he has a couple ints for a td (one vs flynn and one this past week). seems to have a nose for the ball. not sure he's much of a tackler yet. he and zenon must be tied for the conference in ints for tds.
I wish he would have come to LSU. Word around town and his "family" is that if Saban had stayed.. He would be at LSU to learn "secondary" from him. How true that is I don't know. I wonder how they think Croom is next best? I guess it's better than Ogeron. and it's close to home and he got to play right away. He might not have gotten to do that at LSU. he should have come anyway, looks lile Pelini could have coached him and made something out of him. rumor also has it his family influenced him. The Croom thing, they really wined and dined him over there. In starkvegas, go figure. I wanted him for punt returns, he's got allot of skylar in him. I think he's busted a couple this year for good gains. The problem is he is playing for... MOO U. He's still green though. His mistake, he coulda been a REAL star at LSU. patience is a virtue. some just can't wait.
Honestly, we are deep enough that it really doesn't matter. I know you probably care since he is from your parts, right? But, I don't think LSU is at a loss for not getting him...
not as deep as we were at running back coming into the season. just think, keiland williams, charles scott, alley and jv fighting for one spot and hester prolly won't even sniff the field....oh wait.
