What does everyone think of this? 2theadvocate.com | Sports | Raises proposed for Johnson, other coaches — Baton Rouge, LA The pay hikes include raises for the football team’s four offensive assistants, including offensive coordinator Gary Crowton.
I agree with all RESULTS based pay raises. LSU sports (football in particular) brings in alot of money and is nationally known for their athletics. I guess it depends on where they get this money. For fans like us, it usually means and increase on ticket prices, concessions (please no sushi at a football game) etc. Is anybody else in a living in recession except for me?:LSU231:
How bout we wait until the end of this season before we start talking about giving football coaches pay raises. Especially offensive ones.
Bad timing in a year when LSU laid off employees and threatened to furlough all the rest. We've all been told not to expect any raises for 3 to 4 years and that another round of layoffs will happen next June. Also way huge increases. The average raise around LSU is 4%. Human resource will permit nobody to get a raise of over 20% without special permission going all the way up to the chancellor's office. And no bonuses ever. Johnson is getting a 25% raise and hundreds of thousands in bonus clauses. LSU must remain competitive in salaries, but we have some world-class professors and researchers here that we must remain competitive for as well. There is already a brain drain happening at LSU with out-of-state universities hiring away top talent.
Johnson deserves a pay raise of some sort for how awesome of a job he is doing. Regarding Crowton, Porter, and Studrawa... keep dangling that in front of them like a carrot on a stick.
they should spend that money on expanding river road so you dont have to sit there for 4 hours after games.
If I were Johnson, i would take the raise as part of deferred payment as to not look bad in the press. He already makes a bunch of money so just defer it in a way that he can't lose it. It's hard to take a raise like this when the University's budget has been slashed like it has.
As usual, the professors probobly won't get a raise. From what I understand, it's gonna be that way for a few years. To be honest with you, I'm a little shocked that LSU is able to keep "world-class" professors. Most of LSU's new graduates will leave the state to seek gainful employment. If the jobs aren't there, why would a well-educated person stay? This problem has haunted Louisiana from as long ago as I can remember. There are other states that fit the profile too. I don't think the crooked politicians in Baton Rouge really want to see a change. It's easier to be a crook when undereducated people are all you have to deal with. As for the athletic coaches, I think most of them are on par with the rest of the nation. But the football coaches still bring the university the big revenue, so you have to pay them accordingly. So, Louisiana is all set to have a great football team well into the future. Academically, not so much.
The coaches must have heard about the New Orleans city council pay raise vote today...and figured if those morons get one, what about them? :hihi:.
