Nearly all government spending is a waste for the taxpayers. The multiplier on government spending is nothing when compared to the multiplier for private sector spending. Raising taxes in order to pay off the debt is foolish. The benefit of not having to pay the interest is lost by the lost lost GDP. What really matters is the debt to GDP ratio. We can't tax our way out of this pickle. We can grow our way out of it though, which will of course raise more tax revenues for the governemnt to waste on stupid crap like WIA and not pay down the debt.
Bringing back companies that hire thousands of employees would definitely bring in more revenue without raising taxes. Wonder why the politicians don't get it? They spent to much time studying Political Science and not enough in Economics.
Increasing National debt drives inflation. If you want your savings to be worth anything, that is another good reason to reduce the national debt. Your plan soon makes us into a nation of freeloaders with worthless cash. LINK
Again. This does not matter if the the debt to GDP ratio is reduced. The problem with our debt is not the number. It is that debt is an increasing percentage of GDP. We can grow our way into sustainability. Increased taxation hurts that. Money taken out of the economy to pay down the debt is wasteful.
