Thought Faulk had the first on the 4th down play, but regardless, what an idiotic straight out of the sean payton playbook 4th down blunder. Why do you go for it in that situation? Mental lapse on Bill's part.
I kind of like it actually. Indy had ALL the momentum, Manning was firing on cylinders. You need two yards to win the game. Your defense hasnt stopped anyone in the last few drives. Sure it took stones and had it worked people would be calling him a genious. But your the patriots you say "You need two yards and you win" The stupid thing was the play call I think. But the call itself. I like it. Of course there is a reason I am not a football coach.... Note : Check out the article on the team in Texas (Google it) who has never punted. Not once..... Very interesting read. Dont even have a punter on the team. You would be amazed how successful you can be never punting....
I don't know if that would have been called "genious" if it worked or not. Ballsy, but not genious. I can't believe that. They were dominating a good portion of that game. Obviously, they didn't dominate enough. You can't risk giving Manning the ball with only 28 yards to go to win the game. That's crazy. If they would have punted, Indy would have had to go with longer passes and Manning had a number of really dead ducks in that game on longer throws (problems he rarely has). That's crazy not to punt and attempt to hold them from scoring a TD on a long field. Well, I don't like ole Billy boy, so I think it's funny.
Not true at all. The prior drive they were bailed out by a shady 31 yard PI penalty and the drive before that Manning made a horrible throw that was intercepted. The play call was ok, its one of their money plays, the thing is that everyone knwe that it was going to be a pass play. No threat of running the football or Brady scrambling whatsoever. Horrible decision by Bellichick. This loss will haunt them for the rest of the season.
Had to go to bed early. Thought the Pats had the game. Woke up this morning to the 4th down go for it on one's own 28 yard line. Oh boy. If they make it, it was a great call. Since they didn't, he'll be 2nd guessed for a good while. Had they punted and the Colts score then, why didn't you go for it when you had the chance. Coaching is a no win situation unless you win (of course, unless your Les Miles).
I guess I'm in the minority. I don't hate the call. It's questionable, but far from the worst decision every imo. I think you have just a good a shot of making it two yards as you do of stopping the colts. I put the odds of making the two yards at 55%-60%, throw in 5% -10% on stopping them even if you miss it and you get 60% to 70% that you win the game by going for it. As far as when the colts get the ball, you probably stop them in that situation 50% of the time. 60%-70%>50% What numbers would you guys put on it that would make it the worst decision of all time? Edit: No need to point out my math is wrong. The mistake is nominal.
genius of course its a horrible horrible call. the only one Ive ever seen worse is the Az St game fake from our own endzone. i dont care if both dudes make it 100 times out of 100. HORRIBLE calls on both. yes i know it wasnt necessarily a call on the les one. still ridiculous. i like the pats but hopefully this keeps belichik out of the playoffs due to his arrogance. if it was any other coach they would be calling for his head due to idiocy. rationalizing this call is ridiculous. far from it. no matter the outcome its terrible. dont kid yourself.
Ha...yeah, even though I was quoting someone, I didn't even notice that it was spelled wrong (likely due to the hour). Anyway, I hope that person didn't think I was trying to make an azz out of him by spelling it the same way twice because I totally didn't notice. I only mentioned it because I really didn't think it was a smart call. They should have punted, put their D on the field and put the pressure on Indy. Instead they put the pressure on their own offense, then their D.
I'd like to see what would have happened if Faulk wouldn't have bobbled the ball and they got the first down. I have no problem with coaches ACTIVELY trusting their players to win the game. Some things the Patriots had going for them with the call: 1) You get it, the game is over 2) You don't get it, you show the defense confidence that even on a short field, you still trust them to make the stop 3) I doubt any of the Patriots players were doubting the call at the time and all wanted to end the game right there and played like it 4) You have Tom Brady
