With the experience we have and the new talent coming in I think the defense, under Chavis, will be scarey good. These kids were highly recruited for a reason, and Chavis obviously can coach them to the level we need.
Patrick Peterson is better than Eric Berry, right now. Lets enjoy him for another year because it will be his last. He is a sure fire first rounder in the NFL.
Linebacker will be thin, but LSU will be two-deep in All-SEC caliber defensive backs. More nickel maybe.
It will be interesting to see that happen. Chavis doesn't play a ton of nickel, so lets hope he adjust.
Berry gets more of the recognition and he deserves it. I believe that PP will get all the recognition he deserves next year. The guy IS THE BEST Ive seen at CB in many years. Hes great in coverage but I believe its his size and tackling ability that sets him apart. Were all very lucky to be able to see him play. Ya know your watching greatness.
To me it's his speed coupled WITH the coverage that sets him apart. Many CB's can tackle, problem is when they make a tackle, unless they were blitzing, it usually means a substantial gain. A broken up pass is like a run play with no gain. That said, give me a cornerback who can cover the Who Lee OOO's of CFB. PP was all ova him like a saddle blanket on a horse. :thumb:
I think he should switch him next year. I don't think Jones is instinctive enough, or good enough in coverage to be an NFL safety, but I think he could be a good LB at his size. He's got the frame to add 10-20 lbs. and still be fast. Besides, might be better to take advantage of Loston and Taylor together at safety than Jones and Loston/Taylor at safety, then loads of inexperience at LB.
Chad definitely doesn't have the size to be a linebacker in the NFL. Only thing i would like to see is him take over that role that Coleman had this year, Coleman really isn't a linebacker he is more of a 3rd safety, they didn't start turning him loose until the Auburn game. This is what kills us when we play a great running team, we don't have that unstoppable defensive tackle that eats up 2 sometimes 3 blockers, and our defense has been playing that hybrid 3-4 defense. Like you said, Alem doesn't contain, and we got nothing from the other end either. It would be neat to see us be able to get all of our defensive back talent on the field next year, which is why i was playing around with the idea of moving chad to that linebacker/safety role.
