As I pointed out earlier in the thread, much of that success by Jones was because McElroy was money with his throws. At least 7 of those couldn't have been thrown any better by an NFL QB, and were thrown to where only Jones could have a play on the ball. Where PP7 made his impact is, as you point out, limiting Jone's yac, and because of how well Jones was covered he was limited as to how many passes actually were thrown his way. We got to witness 2 great players, each playing their position better than almost anyone in the country. Any other receiver/QB duo and half those passes are broken up. Any other defender/defenders and Jones makes several more plays with substantial more yac. These are 2 players we will most definitely get to see on Sundays in the NFL, and unless they are on the same team we will hopefully get to watch this matchup several more times. I would say currently we are at about a tie in their head to head matchups. Time will tell over their careers who ends up getting the better of the other.
Yes there's no telling how many times jones was the primary reciever and pp had him covered thus busting the play.
I don't think he was, but I will watch it again when I get home, not saying you are wrong, I very well could be, I remember the play, but I didn't check the coverage or formation, or his assignment.
He got beat clean and grabbed the guy to prevent the catch. Smart play that saved some yards, but still. Might have been a double move, but I think more than anything he was surprised they threw at him there.
I must have been looking at a different play because that isn’t what I saw. PP is the reason he didn’t catch it first off. PP got his hand between the WR and the ball and separated it from his hands. Had PP not been draped over the guy he would have caught it. Which turned out to be a pretty smart play on his part, taking the interference call rather than giving up a 40 yd play. Now was the result mainly because PP had himself out of position to make a clean play on the ball, yep, but by taking the interference he made the smart decision given the situation.
Huh? You said basically the same thing I did - He "[took] the interference call rather than giving up a 40 yd play." He had to take the penalty b/c he got beat. Maze had a step or two on him but the ball was a little underthrown. It happens. Nobody's perfect.
It's the way you said it, I didn't take for the same meaning. Doesn't really come of the same to me, but hey it thats what you meant then all is good. I just take being burned as the defender is left in the dust, which wasn't the case.
Sorry. I meant my post directly above yours, which maybe you hadn't read when you posted (at the same time, looks like).
