i kinda agree, but i kinda dont. i defintiely agree with patents on drugs. drugs must remain profitable (profit is evil huh lasalle lolzerz HAHAH i am ****ing idiot) or they cant be made and everyone dies.

but with plants and livestock or whatever, it is profitable to simply grow and sell superior products, even as your rivals can do it as well. the efficiency of the better product is still profitable.

with drugs, any competitor with a lab and a beaker and a bunsen burner can assemble a pill and make your drug for cheaper. but with a plant it isnt the same. if conagra makes a tomato that tastes better and stays fresh longer, they can still profit from it because it makes them more efficient. it may make their competitors more efficient as well, but that is ok.

plants are much more than information. they are expensive to grow and harvest. drugs are like 99% information. meaning like it takes billions to research a drug but the drug itself is 2 cents of raw materials. media is 100% information. the value of these things and the extent to which we should allow folks monopolies on them relative to the amount they are valuable because of the intellectual property. that was a poorly stated point. sorry. i am tired.

I agree 100%. The advances of science are going to continue to present these "moreal dilemma's," for lack of a better term.

No fairness wins again. Intellectual property must be respected.

Kind of like books and recordings.

Irrelevant. The scientists and agro-tech companies who develops the products are not farmers. They sell their products to farmers. If any competitor who wishes were allowed to simply duplicate the formula and steal the profits of the creator, it is no different than drug formulas.

Yes it is. These hybrids are developed in laboratories at technology companies. They aren't developed by Mr. Green Jeans down on the farm.

The plant hybrids are formulas, too. 99% information. If it had no value, people wouldn't pay for it. Farmers want these scientists out there creating new hybrids.

right nobody would ever write a book or record anything without billions. no such thing as unpublished books and recordings. never would happen. nobody would bother.

I forgot you were one of the "the market will take care of itself" dudes. Yes, profiting is evil when every ethical notion, and everything humane is tossed aside for a ****ing dollar.

how is it intellectual property when it's stolen from nature? Oh because it's modified to make you have to buy more.
