And by the time he is ready to play he will be pushing 200 lbs. We already have the big guys we need a couple more speed guys. Bell has the hands, the speed and the moves to be a star.

I said last year that Chris Tolliver was not the best WR on his team.

We're going to end up with 16 WR's in this class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then when the announcers say LSU has more speed on the team than anyone else in the nation they'll be super correct!!!!!!!!

Man we're offering a ton of guys at WR.

So much for him being the safe pick. Committed to Miss St. today.

However, it looks like we backed off of him a tad recently knowing how much love Miss St. was showing him and his HS is 10 min away from the MSU campus.

LSU must also feel really good about one or two of the other WR prospects.

Rivals is saying he is MSU's biggest commitment of his class. They have him has a 4*, rank him as the best player in Mississippi, and the 8th best WR prospect in the US (#1 when it comes to best hands).

Scout, on the other hand, has him as a 3*, and ranks him as the #7 best player in Mississippi, and the 48th best WR prospect in the US.

As a junior last season, Pat had around 1,420 yards receiving (Rivals says 1,424 and Scout says 1,415), 18 TDs (both Scout and Rivals agree here), and an avg of 19.8 yards per catch (per Rivals). His team went 12-3 and made it to the 4A Mississippi State Championship Game (per Scout).

He had offers from Miss State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, LSU, Auburn, and Arkansas.

Good thing LSU got MSU-boy Chris Garrett to commit to us (although he did first commit to MSU). Might not have been fun having Chris Garrett and Pat Patterson as a QB/WR combo at MSU. Garrett is a Rivals 3* (15th best pro-style QB) and a Scout 3* (27th best QB). Garrett had offers from schools such as Florida State, Colorado, and Nebraska.

Anyone think Patterson's decision to commit to MSU might make Garrett think about playing for MSU again? After all, commitments aren't binding at all. And, at LSU, Garrett has to compete against guys like J-Lee, J-Jeff, and R-Shep at QB. Finally, Garrett was raised as a huge MSU fan.

Oh, the drama. Dun dun dun...

I was a big Patterson proponent, but there is wide disagreement on his abilities. Rivals loved him. Scout thought he was average. He has the size and the hands to be a great receiver, but his speed was debated. Some say he ran 4.5 (if so, he should be a 5-star), and some say he ran 4.7 (if so, he's probably a 3-star, or perhaps should be moved to tight end).

Garrett & his family are big MSU fans, but they recognized that LSU is the better institution. Garrett knew our QB depth when he committed, and he also knew there was a good chance Patterson wouldn't be in this class.

I noted that there were questions about his speed in another thread. This only serves to make me question whether we backed off of him because he is slower than what we would like. Perhaps he will go to a camp, etc., where he will be timed again or we will have to find out on the field if he sticks with MSU. We have many options at WR, so I don't think his absence will hurt us much.

Played golf in Foley, AL last week with some MSU fans and they were just dumbfounded that Garrett committed to LSU. His dad has some position at the University but not sure what, maybe alumni.

We do not have to worry about him decommitting for the reasons Parso mentioned and he does not want to go through what he went through already by decommitting from them in the 1st place.

Everything is settling down now and he is happy about his decision to come and play for the Tigers.
