Anyone have a link to a site that shows LSU NFL draftees cross-referenced to recruiting star rankings? Does Rivals or Scout have this kind of data avail pre-sorted?
I don't know, but just FYI: Russell= 1st pick = 4-star Dorsey= 1st or 2nd pick= 4 star so not all the gems are the 5-star blue-chippers.
Yeah - I'm just wondering if there's enough 3 stars in the first day of the draft to be statistically significant. Lots of folks who seem to know recruiting insist that the coaches know better than the services. If that's true, then you would think a statistically significant number of underrated players would end up as first day selections. Don't have time to do the research myself, was hoping it had already been done.
If Im not mistaken, I saw that only 18% of the 1st and 2nd rounders of the last few NFL drafts where 5 star players. I dont rememmber where I read it but there are plenty of 3 star players (and lower) taken in the first 2 rounds.
People that say star classes don't matter are kidding themselves. Of course more 3 stars will be drafted...there are a billion more of them in the rankings. BTW, because they are three stars doesn't mean they are bad players, it actually means they are college contributors. For every Jacob Hester I can show you a Vince Young.
TB3 has it right, just consider only the top 25-30 players are 5 stars. The rest are 4 star or lower. That's the other 2500 players or so. So roughly 1 percent are 5 star players that come out of high school. So for 18 percent of the first and 2nd round picks to be 5 star is astounding.
they don't matter. I mean, yeah, I understand what you're saying, b/c I know how you think, and you're right to a level, but my whole point is that just because Rivals says he is a 5-star means zero. (ex: Xavier Carter) and just because Rivals says he is a 2-star means zero (Hester) Don't get me wrong, I'd rather an all 5-star class than an all 2-star class, but I just don't like when people see LSU getting a commit from a 3-star player as a bad thing just because of the *** next to his name.
It is not a man vs man example. Whole class sizes is what makes the difference. Obviously you can pick out certain guys. And that wasn't my point. I would be willing to bet more % of 5*s pan out better than 3*s. Again, for every Xavier Carter I can find you some three star that never contributed. My point is people that say star rankings are irrelevant are wrong. As a WHOLE they do matter...look at the past champions.
