The 1958 LSU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL TEAM team will be honored this Friday, June 20, in Natchitoches to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Tiger's first ever national football championship.

The event is being called "A PURPLE AND GOLDEN CELEBRATION" and will be held at the Old Courthouse Museum on Second Street in downtown Natchitoches beginning at 7:00 p.m. with a presentation to the players, coaches and special guests. This presentation is open to the public and is free of charge.

Following the presentation, the honorees and their guests will be treated to a private "TIGER TAILGATE PARTY" sponsored by the Cane River Tigers booster group.

The celebration is being held in connection with the FACES OF LSU SPORTS exhibit the museum is presenting all summer long. The exhibit features a wide variety of of memoralbilia from all sports, and presently even includes BILLY CANNON'S HEISMAN TROPHY. The exhibit will also feature the 2007 BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY.

According to Museum Director Carolyn Harrington, the response from the team members has been overwhelming. The following have indicated that they will be attending: COACH PAUL DIETZEL, BILLY CANNON, HART BOURQUE, EMILE FOURNET, LYNN LEBLANC, DON NORWOOD, DON "SCOOTER" PURVIS, DAVE MCCARTY, ED MCREADY, SCOTTY MCCLAIN, BOBBY GREENWOOD, MICKY MANGHAM, DARRYL JENKINS, JOHNNY ROBINSON, DUREL MATHERNE, LARRY KAHLDEN, MIKE STUPKA, DONNIE DAYE, TOMMY LOTT, MAX FUGLER, and EMILE FOURNET.

For more information concerning the event, call the museum at 357-2270. If you're interested in joining the Cane River Tigers or becoming a sponsor and attending the "Tiger Tailgate Party" with the team members, call Rodney Harrington at 318-352-5900 or email at [email protected].

I saw this on Dandy Don, thought some of you maybe could make it.

I would've thought the only time you'd been to Natchitoches was for my wedding.
