You're referring to DJ Fluker, I assume. It happens some (OU had several of Texas' biggest recruits before they started their senior seasons), but I don't remember it ever happening at LSU - under either Miles or Saban.
DJ Shoemate and Matt Kalil both committed as juniors. A few years back there was a kid from Samoa who committed to BYU as a junior and I think they've had others as well. I'd like to hear that Matt Barkley has committed.
His verbal was what brought the question to mind, yes. Taunting his verbal was by no means the intent. I was trying to think of how often it's been seen around the SEC and couldn't think of an example. I figured, as closely as you follow the scenes, if it had happened you might be able to tell me who. Thanks for the response. Who are you thinking of at OU?
I didn't take it that way. I'm not sure how I feel about Fluker. He supposedly grew up an LSU fan, but we haven't shown much interest in him as of yet despite the fact that he's expected to be a very highly rated prospect. I have read that he's very slow & only dominant due to his size. I'm unsure how true that is or whether that affected our recruitment of him. It's pretty rare in general, but appears to be even more rare in the SEC. I don't specifically follow their recruiting, so I don't remember names. I do remember that they were in the early version of the Rivals 100 and there was 3 or 4 of them.
A few months back, there was a story on sports radio here regarding USC basketball coach Tim Floyd offering and seeking commitment from a sophomore player. Have no idea if there's any truth to that. Kinda doubted it at the time. Maybe vball knows.
