I came up hwy 30/Nicholson last night from New Orleans looking to park in the fields behind the Box, but I was punted off twice by the traffic cop onto to Burbank with no reason. When I asked why, he told me that he would arrest me if I asked again and wouldnt explain why but he let others go that way?
We had some issues last night as well. Long story short, we got directed down a road by only being allowed to turn one way. We waited thirty minutes without moving because the policeman at next intersection had us blocked off. eventually he started sending traffic our way, creating a cluster****. We all had to turn around, only to be allowed to go the direction we originally wanted to go in the first place! And they were NOT nice about it when I tried to ask what way we should plan on going next time, to avoid the same situation. I plan on stopping by parking during the week and requesting a route of maps. We park by law school fwiw and were "trapped" on Highland.
I thought I read somewhere too that river road would be one way heading downtown? I know getting out of the parking spaces last night in the river road lot was a chore myself and two other people had the fun of getting stuck in the mud. It was nice to see everyone band together help each other get out.
The River Road lot was a sh*tshow. Took us forever to get out of there, took us forever to get down River, took us forever to get down Brightside. The mud was bad. I was letting someone in and then they had to get out and push their truck, just clogged up our whole lane. Hopefully the traffic and parking is handled better from here on out.
Baton Rouge cops seem to be clueless when it comes to directing game traffic. A large portion seem to just stand around doing nothing, while the few that do try to work don't appear to know what they're doing. I was almost involved in a wreck last night b/c a cop waved me through an intersection, but the light immediately changed to red. Not knowing who to trust more (the light or the cop), I made the split-second decision to run the red light and very nearly got T-boned. If they can't figure out what to do after years and years of practicing, then maybe they should just stay home and let us civilians figure it out. It'd be different if they had a set plan for which roads are one-way, which roads are two-way, etc. But they appear to just be making up a different set of rules each game.
I have very few problems with anyone. But it has been my experience that Baton Rouge people who think they have any kind of authority on gameday are the biggest azzholes in existence. I don't like to knock cops or anything, but I can definitely relate to the experience on a few occasions. Sometimes they have to be azzholes and that's understandable, but some of them are just pricks to everyone just to feel like they're important. I wouldn't mind them acting like pricks if they actually helped the traffic situation after games instead of making it worse like some of them do. I will say I had easy access to Dalrymple about 45 minutes before the game and parked near the fraternities so I was happy with the access on that end.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I thought I was the only one. You could round up a bunch of blind kids and they could do a better job directing traffic. I support BRPD, but they are useless on game day. I've never seen a more dazed and confused bunch in all my life. You would think they had never directed traffic before. Like you said most just stand around watching the cluster like a lost puppy. LSU should save a bunch of money and hire the boy scouts instead.
