Easily apparent in the game vs Cal tonight.

They even made up a new rule that if a holding was too far away from the play, it doesn't count.

    Yep, that's a keeper.

i was watching the game and was thinking the same thing. On that last drive they got an extra yard and a half on a 3rd down run (giving them the first down) they got the holding call taken away because it was down the field (good to know that you can now do this) and that catch on the sideline early in the 4th quarter was iffy too.

Yeah we need to start holding away from the ball now that we know that's legal.

And have you ever seen the kicker be called for false start? I never have.

after this and the auburn crap i actually want a boise-tcu championship game (if LSU can't make it that is)

I hate Boise and TCU but screw it I don't want Oregon or Auburn to win it.

So the Alabama rule, no holding ever, has made it to Oregon. Sorry Cal.

I know on the high school front as an official, we're told and taught that if a "hold" takes place where it isn't impacting the "play" that we are not suppose to throw the flag. If, however, it has the "chance" to affect the play because it is in the vicinity of where the play is taking place to drop the flag.

Apparently it happens all over. Bama got all the close calls in the SEC last year.

I've learned being good creates interesting illusions.

Oregon is close to being in and it's starting to feel like just one stumble between them or Auburn and a deserving BCS one loss team is going to feel what it's like being the bridesmaid. Meanwhile, Boise St. and TCU can work on their style points. What else have they got to do?

    I hear ya.

I have never in my life heard a ref picking up a flag stating that the hold took place too far away from the play at the collegiate or NFL level.

Obviously the player holding thought it was close enough to the play to have an impact or he wouldn't have held. I too in my many many years of playing and watching football have never seen a flag for holding waved off. In fact it's the first time I've ever even heard of it happening.
