New Orleans coach Sean Payton provided a little clearer picture of that mysterious laceration on the right knee of running back Pierre Thomas on Wednesday.

Thomas already had a knee injury, but the laceration was something totally different -- and we mean totally different. It’s one of those things you don’t hear every day when coaches talk about injuries.

“Over the weekend, (Thomas) was chasing his dog in his backyard, had to climb a fence and he caught a portion of his right knee and he has six stitches,’’ Payton told the local media.” That’s really not the issue with him. We’re still working with his (previous) knee (injury).’’

Thomas sat out Wednesday’s practice, but Payton made it sound like Thomas still is a possibility for Sunday’s game with Detroit.

"We’ll see where he’s at tomorrow,'' Payton said. "I’m optimistic that we’re going to get him some work tomorrow. That’s the plan right now.”

If he cannot play this Sunday...I am sure Bell and Bush can handle the Lions.
