Assume that CLM will make ~4MM/year to stay at LSU, and ~5MM/year to go to UM. I would guess that to stay at LSU he will want 8 years gauranteed (through 2018 season). On the UM side, he will want 5 years at 5MM gauranteed to make the jump. If LSU offers him 8 years I really dont see him leaving....just my opinion. (of course he gets to get better/higher paid coordinators when needed)
strongly disagree. the extension is the most important thing (more than the money) and is the only thing that keeps him.
I agree.. with the current state of budget problems at LSU.. it isn't money that's going to keep him here. Michigan has deep pockets and can offer more money. If Les decides to stay then it's because he loves it in Baton Rouge. If he leaves it because he wants to go home back to Michigan.
You obviously don't know how many people associated with LSU football do also. Our State is poor, not our people. Where you think the money goes? I'm witcha on this one! If it was enough when he signed it so should it be, still.
Do you have any idea how much LSU football makes for LSU? That's an investment...and one that will/currently does return EXPONENTIALLY. The academic budget has nothing to do with the athletic one...except the academic side will take from the athletic side. You get a sorry arse coach in here and the football program suffers, THEN you'll see money problems...but it would take an epic fall...ie Archer/Hallman/Dinardo.
to redirect things to the topic at hand..... 1.) No chance of CLM staying with his current contract/extension -- we all seem to agree money is not issue, so how many YEARS need to be added to stay at LSU. (8) 2.) If at UM, how many years will they have to gaurantee for him to jump ship. (5) I say 8 at LSU b/c that makes it the last job he will have. 5 at UM because at least 2-3 just to recruit.
No way LSU gives anyone an 8-year contract. No way Michigan guarantees 5 years to anybody. You just can't do that when you're talking $4-5 million salaries.
