It's just been a weird season with some weird plays and I can't just look at the results without taking them in context. IE: Two of the three fumbles on returns were caused by a Bama player, not a "take-away." One had a blocker flipping over and his leg just hit the ball at the perfect spot. Attempts to recreate it would ... let's just say it would take awhile. While some look at the punt return for a TD as bad, it was a case of the punter over-kicking his coverage. He struggled the first few games (distance) versus what he was kicking for last year and seeing him start to get that distance is a good thing. Fans were upset about the TD, I was glad to see the distance and form return. People look at the season total on FG % and I am looking at Grif being 10 of his last 12. We all look at things differently whether it's rival talking to rival or fan to fan.
What does it matter when you've played few games and given up more touchdowns? Or the same amount of yards? Or the same number of completions. Does pass efficiency defensive rankings mean anything to you? If a secondary gives up more points, in fewer games, than another secondary chances are the former isn't as good ...
Impossible to compare this crap when the variables are different. Even if we had common opponents it would have been on different nights. With that, pound for pound I will take the secondary at LSU, only way to settle it is on the field.
Like that 6-9 game did? I actually felt Bama was a better team, overall, that year. Then, last year, even though we lost, I felt like we were better.
Or it may mean the Dline is not getting the pressure, and no matter what secondary you have they will all get passed on when the offense has all day to throw.
Because it's not just the secondary covering passes. Again, Bama is ranked 105 in yards per completion. That points to your secondary being a weakness. And I don't why you dismiss the big plays. Ask anyone who has watched LSU all year and they will tell you our linebackers have blown quite a few assignments this year and given up TD's. Bama's given up more big plays, and more yards per completion. LSU has given up more TD's. Alabama has a better d line and linebackers which means more falls on the backs of secondary and yes they are better than Alabama's, they aren't great, but better.
There are a few other coaches in the country that would have TRIED everything vs nothing if in the same situation. The LSU coaching in that game was easily one of the worst jobs ever.
It's funny the Jarrett Lee interception season reminded me a lot of Jamie Howard in that 94 Auburn game. Back then we didn't have internet trolls, we had phone trolls. I'll never forget listening to the post game show on the radio and hearing this one fan call in wanting Jamie Howard to meet him in some parking lot so he could beat him up. It's funny how the vitriol for Jarrett Lee subsided and shifted when LSU figured out who the real Jordan Jefferson was. But for all the bad with Jordan Jefferson, he is the only LSU QB under Les Miles to beat Alabama twice. Even though that 1 in 2010, he got some assistance from Jarrett Lee. LSU in this game needs to find a way to get Harris loose so he can run the football if needed, more zone read, more bootlegs.
