We've had two coaches since 1979. May not be a great thing, but it is certainly "Iowa". Droughts from weather seem to get our attention more than short droughts in football.
Not saying he is going anywhere, was just curious about how demanding the fan base is in Iowa, and I believe he answered my question.
No, its not. I grew up in Iowa and still pull for the Hawkeyes when they are not playing LSU. I have spent years in coaching at very high levels to include major college FB and working with Olympians. Presently I do research with athletes all over the country, and sometimes the world. In other words, I am not just some LSU homer talking out his butt. Having said that, I admire the way that Iowa plays the vast majority of the time. Ferentz does a good job with sub par talent and has a history of taking 2 star recruits and turning them into guys that could play on most teams, or at the least be in the two deep rotation. LSU on the other hand has by far the superior talent, but has a tendency to play down to our opposition. If you are insulted by the idea that LSU would be playing down to Iowa then you need to step back and get some objectivity because it is simple reality. The talent level is night and day different between the two conferences and between the two teams. This can be evaluated by pretty much any standard you wish to choose (recruiting class rankings, number of players in the NFL, etc.). I have no doubt that Iowa will show up and be ready to play. The team is full of blue collar guys who didn't get recruited by the bigger schools in the mid-west and have a perpetual chip on their shoulder as a result. If LSU does not show up ready, we will lose.
According to you and the media, I guess. He can't even win the weak-ass Big 10--ever. What's he good at? Oh, and he makes more than Les Miles, but has FAR less to show for it.
Probably true, but certainly not "night and day", imo. Last year, we were 14th in the nation with players in the NFL and that was also 4th in the Big Ten behind OSU, Wisc, and Michigan. We had 35 active players last year.... I think it's now down to 27, but still fairly respectable. The SEC had Georgia and LSU at 2nd and 3rd nationally behind USC. Iowa had as many NFL active players as Alabama. Now, if you go by recruiting rankings, you're probably right. When we faced South Carolina a few years back in the Outback, they had 34 four star or better recruits on their roster. We had five. We won 31-10. If the system is geared at highlighting 17 year old recruits, bent on three years and out, the system should also recognize programs that have four and five year players, who are 21-23 year old "men" by the time they leave. I believe Shonne Green was 24 when he ran all over the Gamecocks....and he left Iowa after his junior year!
This little tidbit, Ferentz in 2010 signed a 10 year, $41M contract, if fired, he would be owed 75%. Over the years they have sent a number of players into the Pro's and most have done well. As of a count now they have around 27 players in the Pro's.
