I'm sorry ,but if your to be an elite receiver in the SEC you make those plays. AU's receivers did. Our receivers dropped at least 5 very catchable passes that could have changed the outcome of that game. The RR pass that ended up in an int should have been caught. The 2 dropped passes by TT, both on key downs and one that could have resulted in a TD, you make those plays. The DP pass across the middle for a 1st down, you make those plays. I'm sorry but, Cam wasn't any more accurate than our QB's, but his receivers made the plays ours didn't. Our QB's do have their faults, but last nite our WR's made them look worse than they should have and were responsible for more than their share of our O's weakness. Had RR and TT each made their plays we would have won.
I agree with you to a point. The long pass to Tolliver surely should have been caught. DP should have caught the pass for the 1st down. However, the interception was a terrible throw. It was a routine intermediate throw, and he threw it almost over the head of a 6'4" receiver. Don't make the receiver make a circus catch on a routine throw. That's what causes interceptions. I'd say our primary problem in the passing game is Jefferson's inaccuracy and inability to make good decisions. The secondary problem is that the receivers have not been as consistent as they should be in making the catches. Unfortunately, yesterday we also couldn't protect the passer, which ruined any chance of throwing the ball in the 2nd half.
I don't dispute that some of those weren't accurate passes, but if you're elite WR you make them. AU's receivers did on at least 3 occasions. A simple rule that was drilled in my head when I played HS ball was, and I'll quote my HC,"boy if you can get your hands on the ball you better catch it". I'm sure that still applies. Our WR's act like unless it is right in their hands they won't catch it, and even then still dropped a few.
You make some good points here. Our WR play has been so inconsistent. I have to laugh sometimes when the Miles haters come out in force and say things like "with the talent on this team..." Sure, this team has talent at the skill positions; however, these players (especially the WR's) have to be held accountable when they play poorly. As you say, drops on catchable passes that could have changed the outcome of the game -- we've seen too much of this. Perhaps it goes to a deeper issue in that overall, the team responds better to Lee than to JJ. I think the worst culprit here is TT and it is infuriating to see the kid's lack of focus at times. :geauxtige
Then it becomes who's to blame here. These WR's are BG's responsibilty and GC's. Miles takes the ultimate heat for it, but my finger points to BG isn't taking care of business, or just maybe these kids aren't doing their jobs. I say it is a little of both, and TT is the biggest culprit. For as many big catches as he makes, he drops just as many that would change games, especially yesterday.
Yep.... TT can whine all he wants about how his career has gone at LSU, but he dropped 4 or 5 passes yesterday. Been dropping passes all year.
As a team LSU lacks focus and discipline. The receivers are the worse right now. Then again there is no accountability on the team. Miles wont sit any asses to force some focus or give someone else a shot.
There's the rub. Sit a few arses on the pine for a while. Other than the usual suspects at WR, who else do we have in terms of depth? :geauxtige
Im not saying there is someone better, but sometimes the fear of sitting will make you perform better. Either way, you cant have someone constantly making mistakes and getting away with it either. I dont know the solution. Ive just lost all faith in Miles after these last three years of underachievement. LSU beats the mediocre teams but dont beat the legit top 25.
