The whole argument that our Texas win is now less impressive was so bogus to begin with. They played like a top-10 tram during that game. Who cares what they played like later in the season?
If the #1 team at preseason loses every game, you really didn’t beat the #1 team. There is some value in ranking at the time, but more once the season is done. If we beat teams that end up in the top 25, that says more than teams that are no longer in the top 25.
This position falsely assumes that a team plays at the same level for an entire season. Texas’s season is what their record says it is. But their individual performance in one game against us was much much much better than their average performance throughout the season. Apples to oranges.
I thought it was hilarious when Elingher was interviewed after the game and yelled out “Longhorn nation...we’re back”!
