The only fear that I have for this game is if CLM has a mental lapse and thinks he is playing in the Big Ten and against his biggest rival. I hope CLM does not try to just line up and play smashmouth with OSU. (If he does this it will shorten the game and OSU WILL win) Tigers need to spread them out and put the ball in the hands of ALL of our playmakers. (keep OSU guessing) I think the tigers will score a couple of long TD's in this game. :milesmic:
I would say that you're right in that the Tigers don't need to get into a 3-yard-and-a-cloud-of-dust slugfest with the Buckeyes. But I also would say that they can get plenty of big plays in the offense they've been running all year. Byrd and Lafell have been mostly wide open, especially when Doucet is healthy, all year, and I don't think it will be any different against Ohio State. But definitely take plenty of shots downfield. (And while we're on the subject, Geez, how good is D. Byrd?)
Our depth is definitely a big advantage. But I'd have to say the experience we gained by playing close, tough games will help us to victory. We got hit hard in the mouth every Sat. and had to battle and play for 60mins for each win. Ohio has not been battle tested. They creamed puffed their way through their easy schedule. That freshman quarterback has no idea what it is like to face intense pressure. I expect him to make a lot of bad decisions and turn the ball over. The one time they got knocked in the mouth (Illinois) they lost.
1) Running game, we put up over 200 yrd rushing in just about every game against some very good defenses. Our O-line will wear OSU out. I truly believe we could win this game by running it down their throats. We rush 40 or more times we win! 2) Wide reciever, we have four that are very good. We will cause some serious match up problems for their defense. 3) Trindon Holiday, enough said. 4) QB, we have two good QBs that are battle tested. 5) Defense, healthy for the first time since VT. 6) Turn Overs, we give up very few. 7) Tight End, I think RD will make some big plays on the slower OSU LBs.
Good point. Teams this year have had to stack the box against OSU to stop the run. If LSU can stop the run without doing this they have a decided advantage. Your LBs must tackle Wells when he's running east/west. If he's running north/south he's very tough to tackle, like Hester. One point on the Big Ten and the Rose Bowl. Part of the problem has also been that the Big Ten champion has had a different game to play at the end of the season three of the past six years.
LSU is so very tough to defend. We do not have a single weakness on offense. Here's what we do: 1) run the ball extremely well in short yardage situations (Hester) 2) have the ability to run wide and ultimately run long (Williams) 3) we have great receiving backs (Scott & Murphy) 4) we have a scat back that's comes from nowhere (Holliday) 5) we have a great possession receiver (Doucet) 6) we have great deep threats (Byrd, LaFell, Toliver) 7) we have 2 QBs that we can switch out and cause defenses headaches 8) our QBs are very mobile and can take off running at any time, sometimes by design 9) we have an OC in Crowton who puts players in position to succeed 10) our offensive line is cohesive, having played all year long together 11) we have one of the premier receiving tight ends in the country in Dickson 12) we have a great blocking tight end in Zinger In conclusion, the only thing that stops our offense is well, our offense. Good luck vaunted Buckeye defense. I suspect we'll be dropping the "vaunted" by game's end.
The only team that has been able to do a decent job against the LSU offense was Tenn. and I think that was only because Miles and Crowton had Perriloux on a very short leash in the first half...And when they loosened it up in the second half RP got that nasty cut in his throwing hand.
Sounds like a lot of depth and young 1st year experience to me. One thing we don't think about much is the Senior leadership. It's not something we can't always see. Heck, I think this team has a lot of Junior leadership as well! Good leadership from our veterans is definitely there.
I agree. Depth at LSU is no better then the depth at Ohio State. Keep in mind we just lost a heisman trophy winner, along with 14 other starters from last year. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for us, with a new QB, new defensive backfield and offensive recievers. Yet here we are playing you guys. That's depth. I think your advantage will be experience. We are still a very young team and next year was supposed to be the year we made a run.
