    That “make” is a French carry-over. Many grandparents used to say, “Make your homework” too. From the French verb “faire.”

    “Faire les devoirs” is how to say “Do your homework” en francais. Literally translated, “faire” means to make.

    Yes dear. After 3 years of French I can fully conjugate the verb faire. Lol.

    It was a thing back in the day. I'm on my way to a meeting. When I get back I'll see if I can find a pic.

    There was a push by state gov in 60-70's to strip it from schools. Kids my moms age basically got the paddle if they were heard using it in school. They wiped it out of mainstream use in one generation and it is dying. Ironically, I worked in Montreal a bit and the way they speak it is very close. Even the wanh.
