i saw that and was editing while you were posting. ive already gotten a snarky remark about the "strong sec" with the florida loss. looks like the sec is 2-3 so far today.
I do feel that the SEC gets a lot of undeserved respect when it comes to the tournament. History has shown that the PAC 10 is the best when it comes to championships.
Can you elaborate? Over the past 20 years (including this year), the SEC has won 6 national titles compared to three from the Pac-10. Last season the SEC only had five (I think) teams in the regionals which was probably accurate. This year we have nine, which may be one too many. I'll give credit where it's due but college baseball in the 40's-70's can't be compared to the past 30 years. Back then players had very few options of where to play and scholarship limits were not what the are today. I'm not saying it was easy to win a championship back then but it is far more difficult today. I recall former Texas coach Cliff Gustafson in an interview about Skip Bertman after LSU won the 2000 CWS. He said it was amazing in this day and age that a team could win five titles in ten years. He explained the differences in the decades and how difficult it is today. Gustafson was one of the best so I won't argue with his logic. The Pac 10 is (and has been) solid in baseball but I also believe the SEC is solid and don't believe the SEC is overrated. When you place four teams (LSU, Alabama, Auburn, MSU) in the CWS in the same year (1997)...and from the same division...and two (LSU & Alabama) play for the title, that says a lot about your conference and your depth. Anyway, eight of the nine SEC teams have to be eliminated before LSU claims another title so does it really matter when they go home? :hihi:
Go back 3 more years and the count is 6-6 for NCs. PAC 10 has 7 teams in the finals the past 10 years vs. 3 for the SEC. LSU has won 5 NCs, Gerogia has won 1. That's it for the SEC. Miss. State went 0-2 last year, UGA the year before, Tennessee the year before that, LSU the year before that, and LSU again the year before that. 2000 and 2002 are the only years this decade an SEC team has not gone 0-2 in the CWS. Going back before that is LSU's dominance. The SEC doesn't create great teams (anymore). There are a lot of above-average/good teams. UGA should have NEVER been a national seed. I thought that before and they proved it today. Edit: 1997 was 11 years ago. Conferences ebb and flow in power. Just because we had a great conference that year does not mean we should get the benefit of the doubt every year after that.
