Terrific recruit out of Texas listing LSU and USC as his favorites. So we go to battle again. His comments about why these two schools: What has propelled the Tigers and Trojans to the top? “They’re both all-around good programs,” said Campbell. “The offensive lines are great and the coaches there make you a better lineman".
So far USC & LSU have split seriously interested recruits 50-50, huh (under Miles)? Keiland Williams & Joe McKnight. I can't think of any other recruits that went to one of our schools that was real high on the both of us. Chad Jones visited USC, Charles Scott was offered by USC, maybe some others that considered both of us.
I'll have to think on that but the only one that comes to mind is Jai Eugene by way of Meatchicken. I expect the head to heads will occur more often amongst all top 10 teams. Recruting has become a heated battleground. Question for you-do you sense much animosity between/among the SEC coaches over recruits? The Pac10 has some obvious rivalries and not so friendly relationships among coaches but Harbaugh has recently attempted to enter the fray.
Coach M"O"ron hates LSU and will negatively recruit against LSU even if the recruit won't go to Ole Miss. Saban and Miles might get into some negative recruiting in the future.
Miles & staff have been shocked by what Saban has been telling recruits. He's attempted to take all the credit for LSU's success, etc. There's some animosity there. Coach O at Ole Miss is known to negatively recruit against LSU & for USC if he doesn't think he has a legit shot at a kid (Keiland Williams & Joe McKnight). Urban Meyer at Florida apparently uses negative recruiting & attempted to tell Tolliver (#1 WR last year) that LSU didn't have good academics and such. These 3 coaches are the ones we are going to run up against the most often and so I'm sure some rivalry is there & will continue to develop. For the most part, it is healthy I think. But Miles did mention that he thought there were some NCAA infractions by other coaches this past year, and these 3 coaches would've been the ones he was referring to. Since USC recruits so nationally, I'm sure we will continue see a few battles for recruits between Pete & Miles. Ultimately though, I don't think it will come down to how good of a recruiter either one is. Some kids want the "big city life" etc, and some don't. This will make up a lot more minds than how good of a recruiter either coach is.
I think you're right about that in many cases. Broderick Green stated in an invterview at USC just last week that Arkansas was boring, couldn't wait to leave, didn't want to go home after Spring break, and loves the city surroundings. And don't forget successful coaches will always be NFL targets so I don't think players often make their decisions based on the Head Coach. You can never underestimate the pull of Assistant coaches though. Remember it was ultimately Coach Norton whom McKnight referred to as a father figure, who was the key in a decision favoring USC.
This guy sounds like a stud. I read something on him a couple months ago. At that time he had LSU as his favorite but it appears he has switch his favorite to USC after recently receiving an offer from them. He has stated that he does not want to commit early so there is a long way to go still. I think in the end distance may be a factor for him. He has a very impressive list of offers though. http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=43568 I find it interesting that Texas has not offered him.
He wanted to get the hell out of this state. I think that was the ultimate deciding factor. But you are right. The head coach can't be in 30 houses at once. Position coaches and assistants are very important influences.
