according to ESPN. Sorry if this has been posted already, but I didn't see anything on it. The backup CB Eugene Clifford is still ineligible. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls07/news/story?id=3171133 Not sure if The Vest is pulling an Urban here, but this seems convenient since a backup would have been ineligible as well. Hopefully it won't matter. Besides, there will be fewer excuses for OSU if we win the game.
This has basically been the story since about 6 hours after the original story went public. He was never suspended.:thumb:
Clifford has a rap sheet prior to this incident, which would be enough to justify the difference for a minor infraction anyway. The rumor mill in Columbus is that they were out somewhere, and Washington went home well before the incident in question. not sure how reliable that is, considering that Washington has been suspended for some practice time. I realize that you didn't, but some others have, so I'll say this to hopefully nip this in the bud. This is not a double standard...the media jumped all over this before there was enough evidence for the OSU staff to even know what had happened. There was no violence, the police were not called, and these were team rules that were violated, not NCAA rules, or laws, TEAM RULES. I would think that LSU fans, fresh from "losing their coach to michigan" would be acutely aware of how the media trumps these things up before the facts are in, attempting to be the first to break the story. How this equates Tressel with cheating is nothing more than an attempt to defame a coach that has shown repeatedly a tremendous amount of respect for rules and discipline, miles beyond what it was like with Cooper. Important to note that the football team's GPA is around 3.0, and has led the big ten in overall GPA for the last several years.
there was a mention of it, though no one at tOSU would confirm he had ever been suspended in the first place, and no mention of him being cleared for the game b/c of the appeal. wish I knew, but I don't think any of this informtion will be forthcoming.
Sorry phlashman, not necessarily all directed at you, but I have something to say, so... So what is Miles planning to do with Mallett next year? Oh that's right, instead of doing their homework, and being certain, Herbie and the folks at GAMEDAY reported that Miles had accepted the job at Michigan. To make back handed comments about something you know nothing about personally, and can only speculate about is unfair, at best. Go ahead and keep talking though, if you think that Tressel doesn't have an ego of his own, you're crazy. To be the coach with the longest playoff winning streak in 1-AA HISTORY at 17 games, an over 83% win streak at Ohio State, including two streaks of 19, 28 regular season games, and 6-1 versus your archrival (regardless of how you feel about "The Game", is saying something about your talent as a coach). To have had the NCAA sticking their nose in your business as much as they were tOSU over the Clarrett thing, and believe me, they were, as anyone here in Columbus knows (NCAA people were here at least once a week for about a year), and have them find NO VIOLATIONS, despite searching tooth and nail for them, says something about your integrity. Any other attacks on our coach are nothing but trash, and I will no longer respond to these indecencies (I know, breaking your heart--don't care...principle and what not) I have defended Miles as a coach, and will continue to do so...such a blatant lack of sportsmanship, and underhanded trash talk is up to you to sink to, but think about the kind of example you, as a fan, are setting for your players--and yes, they do care what you think--egos are egos (everywhere, including non athletes). Sorry, end of rant. I was sick of this a couple of years ago, and as much now. To say we're slow, plodding mammoths, and question our talent on the field is bad enough, but to question the integrity of our coach personally, while your right, is deplorable.
Who started the whole Ohio State is slow bit, anyway:huh: OSU has really not had to keep up with the fastest teams out there due to weak schedule. But, I don't recall seeing much on this board or from any of the LSU fans I know about OSU "slowness." It seems to me that this was manufactured by the media. They love to stoke the fire. While I don't think OSU has quite the team speed that LSU does, probably not far off. Making the speed work for you in the course of the game is another matter. As far as the suspension reinstatement. If true, emblematic of college football, pro football, college sports, pro sports, society in general...I'll stop there. In these markets, integrity starts and stops at the dollar bill.:thumb:
well said Buckeye78 --- Tressel is the type that would suspend anyone to teach a lesson to the whole team- then feed off that as an advantage to his team. Washington has had a clean past & is a 4.0 student (high school & college).
