How long was Les Miles a coordinator in his entire coaching tenure? I'll be kind and absolve him of his time at LSU and the meddling he did. Waiting. Three years. That's it. He then landed a position coaching job with the Dallas Cowboys at tight end. Well, three years, kinda that is. During 1995 Miles shared OC title with Mike Gundy who then left to be the passing coordinator at Baylor for the '96 season leaving Miles with the sole title for 1996 and 1997. The points per game ranking for those three seasons Miles had the title of a coordinator at Okie State? 1995: 20.8 ppg (80th of 108) 1996: 22.1 ppg (73rd of 111 1997: 29.3 ppg (35th of 112) I would not call that a sterling record of offensive production. When Miles landed the head gig in 2001 at Okie State he was a finalist with none other than Mike Gundy. Obviously this was after Dirk Koetter took and then ditched the job as the first choice opting for ASU. Gundy was inserted as the OC as we all know and eventually the head job was his when Miles took the LSU job. Guys that have offensive prowess and have been tied to Gundy are names such as Larry Fedora and Dana Holgorsen. A far cry from the offensive tree that Miles produced in over a decade on the bayou. That's it. That is the entire coordinator resume of who ended up becoming the most celebrated head man at LSU -- two full years as a coordinator alone and a third with the duties and title shared. Suggesting that one's ability to coordinate equates to success as a head man is ignorant and wholly inaccurate. Some of the best coordinators fail as head coaches and some of the best head coaches did not set the world on fire as a tactician. Especially in college football where being a figurehead of some ceremonial measure that effectively delegates and recruits being the most vital characteristics needed to raise money, rally fans and recruits, and then implement an effective schedule of training to handle the rigors every season presents. Orgeron will only be as effective as his assistants that coordinate his units. If you don't think that's the case, ask any Alabama fan how the Kiffin/Sarkisian deal worked out for the Tide last year despite Nick Saban being perhaps the greatest college head coach in history overseeing the ship.
I am pretty sure of our 20 or so recruits so far 14 or 15 have had at least one site rank them 4 star. I am not sure what is so terrible about that lol.
It's not, and the star system can be a barometer for recruiting, but it's not the only reason you should recruit a player. We have, like other schools, taken celebrated high school players only to watch them flop. Our stat posters like to point to the star system as being the reason "little Nicky" is successful, and while that is part of it, there are other factors to be considered. You can have a team full of 5 star guys but that doesn't guarantee success. Again it's not terrible but you got to have guys willing to work as well as being gifted.
Yea I get it, but those schools recruiting consistently in the top 10 are consistently good. Its flawed in ways, but it still is a very good measure of talent on hand. Our biggest flaw is missing at key positions. We get lots of good WR's, for an example, with no one to throw them the damn ball lol.
Oh I'm with you on that, we have to recruit at a high level to stay at the top. DJ Chark is really putting in some work this summer so I hope it pays off. He is a great example of a young man with good attributes and will be special if he keeps working and getting coached up. I think if we really have a passing game this year it will be hard to believe what we are seeing. That would really give Guice so room to work.
Man I hope so. One of my biggest gripes with Miles was not using and exploiting our talented guys more. I hope that we actually game plan to exploit weaknesses in teams vs our square peg approach of just running what we run. We have lots of history of people being able to stop it lol.
Chark was saying Canada is implementing changes thru Skype this summer. Supposedly he is in NC and working with the offense to put in routes that exploit the defense. Chark is pumped about the receivers roll in the offense so maybe that's good news. He said they really like Canada and mentioned that the guy is always moving people to exploit the defense, even if he has to draw in a route himself. Said he is always looking to get guys open. This was in an article I was reading in the newspaper this morning. If this is true it's a big change from what we are used to.
Nick Saban had LSU in the sewer? Someone might want to tell the record books. The keepers of such things would dispute that mightily. The only time LSU won a national championship since 1958 was with quarterbacks Nick brought on campus and Jimbo tutored for years.
