#10/#11 Iowa wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Iowa earns their twelfth (12th) finish in the AP Top 10 since the AP Poll started in 1936!!!!!!!!!! (LSU has 19... almost double what Iowa has) Final Total Yards 407--Iowa 155--GT Interesting historical note about Iowa, they won zero national championships, but they officially claim the 1958 National Championship! How funny is that? According to their explanation: Iowa finished the 1958 regular season ranked #2 in the AP poll [with a 8–1–1 record], behind 11–0 LSU, although that vote was taken before the bowl games [where #1 LSU beat #12 Clemson 7-0 in the 1959 Sugar Bowl]. Iowa convincingly won the 1959 Rose Bowl, 38–12, setting or tying six Rose Bowl records. The Football Writers Association of America, arguably the most prestigious organization at the time to vote on a national champion after the bowls were played, gave their national championship trophy, the Grantland Rice Award, to Iowa. LOL! LOL! LOL!
See, what happened was, when GT left the SEC, that lost all that SEC speed!!!!!!!!! (And to you dolts that believe this, it's just a joke)
Yep.we're now 4-1 against the Southern "speed" in bowl games in the last 8 years... but I'm sure we'll soon learn that GT wasn't trying or didn't care, or their qb got drunk the night before, whatever...... after all, they're just bowl games..... We beat the PAC 10 champ, the ACC champ, the 3rd best Big Ten team beats the SEC's 3rd best team, the Wissies roll miami, and little NW takes Auburn to OT.... but, yeah, we suck.... and life goes on. college football, you gotta luv it!!!
I wouldn't get too excited about beating LSU in Saban's final game in Orlando. The game should never been close and the photo of Hail Mary TD to win it clearly showed holding by two Iowa players. I think the Big 10 is good just not as good as the SEC and not usually as good as the Big 12. The Rose Bowl is the most overrated, overhyped game each year and drags the Big 10 down to the level of the Pac-1. On a positive note...it appears that JohnLSU (aka: JohnPennState) has now become JohnIOWA. :hihi: One thing to remember: SEC: :crystal::crystal::crystal::crystal::crystal: (*maybe a 6th on Thursday)(3 teams, maybe 4) Big 12: :crystal::crystal: (*maybe a 3rd on Thursday)(2 teams) ACC: :crystal: Big 10: :crystal: (*Miami still feels screwed over that one) Big East: :crystal: Pac-1: :crystal:
I believe the "speed" comments have been due to the fact that Ohio State was beaten badly by speed from LSU and Florida. I don't believe it means every southern team is faster than every northern team. There are more quality teams in the south but that doesn't mean ALL southern teams are better than ALL northern teams. Congrats on a great year. :thumb:
Big 10 earned some bragging rights this year for sure. After all the abuse they have gotten in past years this year they deserve some respect. However with a month to prepare beating Ga Tech isnt hard to do. Again LSU last year flat out hammered Ga Tech and LSU was far from an elite team. I would not consider Ga Tech even close to an SEC team. Matter of fact Ga Tech got beat by UGA who was a subpar SEC team this year. So they are an ACC team. But congrats on a great season, Iowa is a well coached disciplined team and deserve all they earned this year.
Now that I've woken up sober from last night's "party", I reread my post and wondered who I was arguing with!!! All in all, a good night for the Hawkeyes and a good bowl season for the top Big Ten teams. On a separate note, I think the "speed" comments date all the way back to the Miami and FSU teams in the 80's.
