How is Adam Henry doing at LSU? Is his McNeese to 2 years as Oakland Raiders TE coach pedigree, getting the job done? Are the WR's going through an adjustment to his teaching methods? Why hasn't his name come up in what was one of the worst pass dropping games in quite some time? Regardless, what are your opinions of Adam Henry, LSU's new Wide Receiver coach? Also, how is his recruiting? Predictably, LSU negatigers don't bother to look at the actual problem, they go right at Les Miles throat. It's Jerry Springer/Trailer Park embarrassing. Very tiring after 8 seasons. (Yes, I do know it's Les Miles responsibility, need to toss the buck stops with him cliches)
My opinion is that we can't catch the ball. I don't know if you can coach a guy to teach him to catch or if that's just something you assume he can do. I really don't think our passing game is that bad. Catch the ball, don't fumble, and we win the Florida game. With an inexperienced QB, you can't drop passes that hit you in the hands.
Are the receivers running good routes, getting separation, and showing improvement from week to week?
Too early to tell with Henry, but I dont see any positive impact yet. He has been great recruiting, but we are going to need him to develop some WRs soon.
On TV, it's hard to tell if the receivers are running good routes and getting separation (that view is one of the only positives of sitting in the nosebleed sections of Tiger Stadium). However, I've seen regression, not improvement. With that being said, enough balls are getting to the receivers for them to drop them, so I would say the biggest problem of all are the drops. Fix that, and we're looking MUCH better.
the technique of the recievers is very sloppy look at odell's 50 yard cath versus florida he doesnt catch it in stride because he over extends to make the catch he runs down and instead of running full speed to the endzone he tries to stiff arm a guy while flailing the ball around , that is technique, and that can be coached , there is also ball catching techniques that can be taught and the more you rehearse them the better u get at it, however catching ability is more of an offseason thing to work on so dont expect any improvement this year in short no, i do not think henry is doing a good job
In addition to dropped balls, I think their route running sucks balls. Routes are not crisp, convincing, and the WRs do not appear to work back to helping Mett out. Now, sometimes the rush is so quick, they don't have time to help him, but I saw several plays against UF where Mett had some time, receivers weren't open, and no one was trying to work open to help him out.
Its far beyond just him. The entire offensive coaching staff needs some serious evaluation. I think a big problem also is that there is no fear to have your ass sitting on the bench. Thats one think I love about Spurrier, he will bench an All American in a heart beat if the keep Fing up in a game. With Miles you can make all the mistakes you want and he just keeps playing you. I know a player is a starter for a reason but if they arent stepping up maybe sitting him will light a fire in him or the guy replacing him.
We only have 3 Fr WRs ... one is 5'11 .... one is 6'1, and Dural who is 6'2. ... and 1 Fr TE, who is a 280lb, which sounds more blocking to me than receiving. Unless the 5'11 dude is like Hollaway fast and stellar at routes, that is wasted draft. That's just too short, IMO. 6'1 is a tad short as well IMO for a really good WR. I mean ... all of our starting defensive backs are 6'2, 6'3. Going to be tough to hit these midgets among giants, unless the midget can break free in a crossing route and get hit on the run or find an opening in a zone. Dural looks to me to be the best investment .. but I don't know much about him either. Williams, a SO, 6'3 WR is a person I think I'd be working up. He's got the hieght ... just need to get him game worthy from a routes and catching perspective. I'd also start working up James Wright .. who's also 6'2. There is a SO TE, Travis Dickson, who's 6'3, 230lbs. Maybe they need to look at him as a WR. 230 on a 6'3 fella is pretty light, but he'd be a big target. Of course, I don't know much about him. He may have lead feet for all I know. OF COURSE ... all of this is just fan-based coaching. I doubt seriously that a thing we say ever makes it back to the coaching staff. But I see what I see. Two big, 6'5 TE's caught all of their passes in the last game ... the WR's dropped a bunch of theirs ... Boone dropped all of his.
I'm not saying that hieght is everything. Running good routes .. and of course .. being able to catch the fricken ball are always tops. But .. ya gotta admit, having a nice tall target helps. Colston is something like 6'4. RR is 6'3. This is why I think LSU should use their big tall TE's more often. A. Williams seems like a good target as well. I mean really .. could he be any worse that Kadron Boone last weekend??
