They only looked confused on ridiculous zone coverages. Each of these players were BUILT for man coverage. The new DC should recognize that. The LBs are a MUCH bigger problem. We need more speed there.
Ole Miss threw a TD bomb to a wide open receiver on a a blown man coverage, too. Some of these guys simply bite on every fake move in the book. Green players will do that . . . so do poorly coached players. I trust that Les knows where the problem lies.
Now that I think about it I stand corrected. In most games in 2003 the defense picked up the slack because the offense went through many dry spells especially the second half. This may be true, I haven't watched Alabama that closely. With 2 young children in the house I'm lucky if I can follow the LSU game closely. I can agree on some here other than the fat and happy comments. I think any fan would be concerned with the amount of turnovers from the QB position and the defense struggling like they have never mind last year. I haven't forgotten the 04 season, Oregon St and Troy game. This is why I say we aren't fat and happy, there are some concerns going into next year that anyone would have. I'll give you one more, we have to replace Colt David! Field goals won't be automatic next year! I don't know if this is directed at me but I SEE no problem having a wait and see attitude to see if Les Miles can indeed maintain the program at its current level or a level in which he inherited it once all players from fomer staff are gone! I guess you read the rest of my post about wait and see attitude? I haven't said one thing about Les Miles other than I thought he did great every year here with the exception of this year. I have no concerns about having one bad year other than most questions that we had before this season STILL haven't been answered going into next year. I'm expecting and hoping for a little better results going into next year!
I'm wondering, since we have great talent, how long does it takes a good defensive coach to retrain fundamentals and technique? IMO, unless one of the quarterbacks asserts himself as the leader of the team in the spring we will start next season at about the same level that we ended this one. Hopefully we will improve as the season progresses. I don't think Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss will be weaker next season. Alabama will be deeper and more talented. Georgia should have back all the injured players that missed this season. Snead will have more experience and he was almost perfect against us this time, and Miles nemesis, Nutt will still be on the sideline. Florida will definitely be as strong.
QB took it's biggest step towards improvement last weekend. RB I don't see any reasoning behind them being stronger. Even if Scott comes back (50/50 if I had to guess), we lose Quinn Johnson. I don't think the general viewing tiger fan realizes that he is one of the top 3 players on this team in terms of consistent ass kicking. Keiland is the most inconsistent back I have seen in a long time. He cannot be your feature back. Murphy has been a disappointment for the most part. If Scott takes the money, I would say Ridley has the best chance to be the go to guy here. OL. The good news is I don't think Black played well enough to leave early like some thought he would before the season. But we still lose big herm. We will be kinda young here, but the potential is there. WR. I think we now have to worry about Lafell leaving early. He has probably played his way up the value boards and is about as perfect a body type one could be for the NFL. However, if he does come back, the lineup of him and Toliver will be pretty hard to defend. And we will have a Mitchell, or another young guy step up. DL. Alem will be a full tiem starter, Nevis has shown some ability, alexander will be healthy hopefully and RJF. I'd say they have the same potential as the group this year did, just gotta coach em up and we should be tough here. LB Shepard I think improved all season. He plays fast. Cutrera steps in for Beckwith, and Riley is ok, but could definitely get better. Again, our scheme sucked ass. I don't know if these guys are good, great, or horrible. We will have to wait and see. DB. I think we get big improvements here. Peterson and Eugene at the corners should be better, plus Coleman and Jones at the safties with Phelon and Brandon Taylor filling in in nickel and dime. I like the chances for improvement here. Punting. I'm not arguing, but why do you think better? Not that it was that great, but who do we have that will do better? PK. It's going to be hard to get someone as good as Colt. We haven't ever had a ton of luck with kickers, but he was a good one.
IMHO our defense started to somewhat fall apart, as you say, during the Tulane game last year. JMO..........I feel Coach Miles needs to fix the defense first before we can have a chance at winning one of these :crystal: again. :geaux:
I voted that we just hit a speed bump, but it doesn't matter how long it takes. I will still be a fan, and I will still love and support the Tigers. :geaux::geaux::geaux::geaux::geaux:
These were both thoughts that jumped out as me as well. Even if we do find a new DC to come to LSU, that doesn't mean he is going to be successful. Look at Auburn -- they hired a new OC and look what happened to them -- and Franklin was supposed to be a genius at OC. And yeah, our QBs are extremely green. Sure, they will be a year older next year, but there is no guarantee they will mature enough by then to give us the level of QB play needed to have a 10-win season.
