Guys look ahead to next year and lets look objectively.

    QB will be improved.
    RB as strong or stronger
    OL Just as good
    WR Improved

    Defense

    DL suprisingly i think Better
    LB Same Or better
    DB Better

    Special teams

    Punting Better
PK ? Possibly same or worse.

    Look at the West

Alabama Not quite as good. Very competitive
Auburn Not as good or same
    Ole Miss Improved and Challenge
Miss St same or a little better
    Ark. Same

Lets not be all gloom and doom.

LSU has alot of talent and i am optimistic for LSU.

Strongly agree on QB...one BIG problem solved.
    Agree on RB.
Partially agree on OL...remains to be seen, IMO, but possible.
Agree on WR. Tolliver is the second coming of Bowe, J. Mitchell shows promise, and LaFell will be all-SEC.

DL...I think I agree. Alem will has really come on. Nevis looks like a young Dorsey. Alexander is coming back, and Davenport is supposedly NFL-ready.
LB - nowhere to go but up, IMO...
DB - IF coached better, will be dominant. Being out of position needs to stop and more bump coverage to disrupt timing would help a lot.

Not sure about punting. Dalfrey is having a monster year but I think he's a senior. What is Jasper?
We're losing the best place-kicker in the history of the SEC. That's all I can say about PK.

I don't see Alabama taking too much of a step down. They're winning with a LOT of young blood and an average -at best - senior QB.
Auburn...again, nowhere to go but up.
Ole Miss is becoming a contender.
Miss State is the new Ole Miss
Arkansas will be looking for a new coach this time next year.

Also, we have to play Georgia IN Georgia next year, but they probably won't be quite as good as they are this year.

Overall, things really are looking up. Young players like JJ and PP look to take leadership of the team and I'll be shocked if Miles keeps the current coaching setup. Even if we have to adjust to a new defensive system, I'm sure it'll be an improvement.

Great thread and a lot of excellent points made. I agree, just a speed bump. We can't win it all every year, although it would be nice, wouldn't it?!

Perhaps another way of looking at things this year -- As great a team as were last season, we also had a lot of breaks go our way, i.e., the TD pass to beat Auburn when all we needed was a FG, all the 4th down conversions vs Florida, all the stars aligning perfectly to allow us into the NC game after the Arky loss... Of course, it is true that you make your own breaks, but sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.

This year seems the opposite. Arguably many breaks have not gone our way, starting with RP getting booted off the team, the youth/lack of experience in many important positions not the least of which includes QB (too many pick-sixes!) and in the defensive secondary.

I think we come back stronger and much improved next year, provided the right decisions are made.

It's an even numbered year. This was an easy question.

Opinion well you HAD to ask.

    next Year:

    Great recruiting class top 8

Miles names a new DC. new scheme puts new life into our normally strong defense
Our take away margin goes way up as we force teams to pass.

JJ and JL become very good at handling the Offense.
Crowton has a clinic every game for the other team by keeping them guessing due in part to the two styles of QB.

We win ten or more games and finish top five maybe a shot at the NC.

first team to get 3 Crystal balls :helmet:

Why should it take longer than one year?
It's not like he had to totally rebuild the program!
Let me ask a question here...
How long did it take Nick Saban to turn around the LSU and Alabama programs?

Some may not like me for my views but my views on Les Miles is unchanged.
There is no doubt that I want him and LSU to succeed, he is a fine man but I said last year that we would truly find out how good a coach he is once all of Nick Saban's players and recruits are gone.
I have very little doubt that he was just as successful as Nick Saban with his players but I've often wondered and had the wait and see approach once all of Nick's players had left.
There is no doubt that Nick's players were coached and taught the proper football techniques such as tackling, etc by the previous coaching staff as well as the current.
There is no doubt that Pelini and Miles should be given credit for any success in changing schemes.

However, I find it very troubling, as bad as the defense played at times and tackling was just bad at times.
I also find it troubling that we will go in to next season with the same unanswered questions as we went into this season with pretty much no improvement throughout this season.
I have also wondered at times if this team played every game for 60 minutes?
That was the first thing our previous coached stressed.

I didn't vote for above because its too early to tell, wait and see approach for next year.
I will say the same thing I said after last year...
We will find out just how good a rebuilding and teaching head coach Les Miles is next year.
I do acknowledge some of the questions such as QB position wasn't answered because of injuries btw.
To set the record straight, I've been very impressed with Les Miles and his coaching staff every year except this year so far!

I don't think you care about my opinion, but I'm gonna give it anyway. :thumb:

I don't see the QB position nor the defense automatically being fixed next season to go to the NC game like Mastermind thinks could happen. If we get a new defensive coordinator, it might take us a year to get into the groove, and if we keep the numbnuts we have, it could get ugly.

I voted the second option because I am hoping that Miles cleans house on the defensive side during the offseason, we get better at QB and defense next season, and the year after, we're back on top competing for a NC.

When I get time, I'll do a little search to see how many times you called them numbnuts last January.
