yeah its been a big deal. once again he plays the race card and unfortunately many have agreed with his stance.

this is a jilted lover's syndrome not a race issue.

mike wilbon chimed in that he had similar feelings of the reverend jesse when he read the open letter as did Screamin A Smith on fox. although the latter one's stance isnt a shock.

jason whitlock wrote a good article about it yesterday I believe:

He is way off base, but when has Jesse Jackson been on spot with most of anything.
This has nothing to do with race and people should stop making excuses for Lebron and Jackson, they both have embarrassed themselves.

A 100 million dollar slave? Somehow I dont get it.

i think a more appropriate analogy is the city of cleveland was held captive to lebron's lemasturbation.

its clear he knew where he was going long ago. its in black and white for all to see.

he could have at least informed upper management so they could pursue other free agents.

ive always liked dwade and the heat even though im not a big nba fan. now i am forced to pull against this clown who happens to be there.

wade convinced his top opposition in the east in lebron to piss away his possible legacy in order to enhance his own. and for less money.

    dwade is smart.

DWade is smart, you are right about that. He already has a ring and now his legacy will grow if they win.

Lebron should have at least called Gilbert and said what he had to say, now you have Jackson being an idiot as usual.

I wish I could pull up some old threads, I tried to warn you about Lebron 2 years ago or so... I will pull against him as well.

Cant' wait till football season starts so I can drum you again in the weekly picks like last season.:hihi:

"Man I can't believe Lebron would turn his back on us. How dare he betray us!? I even tried to get Tom Izzo to betray Michigan State by coming here to coach Lebron. Wait, uhhh, no, scratch that. I would never ask someone to betray their organization. That would be hypocritical of me......."

the hypocrisy is gilberts blasting lebortion's character when trying so hard to re-sign him.

if lebacle was such a choker and a quitter, why was he selling his soul to keep him.

no doubt, that is a slap in the face to every slave, and ancestor of slave. The only thing that i think comes even in the same solar system of slavery in sports, is today's college football player, who make the NCAA and their respective University millions, upon millions of dollars, and receive NOTHING. Oh but they get a free education, shut up......

Anyway, So maybe this was Gilbert's plan all along, he has spun this pretty well.

gilbert's reaction was exactly that of the fan base so it went over well with them. If we were clevelandites we'd love him for it despite the crappy team he put together.

it'd be like if skip blasted little nickie on the way he bailed. in a long drawn out press conference slamming him for all the ways he's a prick. it'd be great.

of course it would have been in a more professional manner but great nonetheless. and something no other fan base could have understood unless they went through it personally. same thing with cleveland.

its an emotional thing. our local teams are much more personal to us fans than we fans care to admit. actually id imagine many LSU fans can relate to how cleveland now feels as much as any other fan base. whether justified or not. just swap one little egomaniac with the other.

The letter was a mistake, and more about deflecting attention to the piss poor management by the Cavs organization. They had 7 years, and they failed to get the right players to surround the best player in the game. In 09, they had Wally's expiring contract to get that player to push them over the hump but didn't do anything. When Mo Williams is the second best player on the team, you're not going to win a championship.

What's the upside vs. the downside to the letter?

What's the upside? Not much, really. Sure, it fired up angry Cavs fans. But, when the moment passes, the Cavs fans aren't going to return to cheer a bad team because of this letter.

And, the downside? You scare off potential free agents and players when you were already having difficulty attracting them in the first place.

For example, in the scenario you painted about a press conference blasting Nick Saban when he left, do you think that would have helped or hurt the LSU program going forward? I say hurt because coaching candidates would have been turned off by it and avoid LSU. If you're a coach and knew that the school basically destroyed the previous coach and possibly hurt the former coach's prospects, would you go to that school knowing full well that the school would probably do the same thing to you?
