The best thing besides fire Crowton that CLM can do is have an open competition at QB.

It doesn't matter what level of football you are at from Pop Warner to the NFL most teams will be bad, good or great depending on their leadership at the key position, QB.

I've supported JJ all season. I've put the blame on Crowton (which alot of it belongs) but at some point 15-20 games into your college career some basic things have to kick in. I'm just not sure JJ has "It". He certainly hasn't proven to be a leader on this team. I'm not sure his decisions have been the best to prove he can do the job.

CLM nees to open the competition up to Shepard, Garrett and Jefferson. Let the best person win the job. It's painfully obvious that Jefferson has not progressed. Some of it is coaching but some of it is the "It" factor.

Throwing Sheppard or Garret into the fire too early will have the same impact it did on Lee and Jefferson. Both of the younger guys can be fantastic players, and Sheppard should be playing some role in every game, but last thing we want is to ruin the confidence of two more of our talented, young QBs.

Under normal circumstances, I would agree completely. But Jefferson just doesn't have the right stuff and LSU deserves the best OB it can get. Jefferson hasn't earned the right to be handed the job. He must compete as everyone else must.

Folks, here's our choices at QB for the 2010 season, assuming no transfers and redshirted QB recruits for the 2010 class:

    1. Jarrett Lee. Demonstrated in the LaTech game that he is completely broken as a gametime QB while he still has a scholly at LSU. Has shown no improvement and actual regression in decision-making since the halcyon pick-6 days of 2008.

    2. Jordan Jefferson. Good physical tools but still questionable decision-making and QB instincts, unclear at this time how many of his bad habits can be coached out of him. Now has a full year of SEC experience under his belt.

    3. Chris Garrett. By all accounts a good prospect wth a good mind for the game. RS Freshman with zero experience, and would be the 3rd freshman QB for LSU in as many years.

    4. Russell Shepard. Obvious at this point that he will never be used as an every-down QB, and will likely be used solely as a Percy Harvin-like back/slot receiver with occasional looks out of the Wildcat.

Let's face it, unless Garrett comes into spring practice and puts up a Heisman-like performance, JJ is our man in 2010.

I really don't get the idea that a person who is 6' can't play qb... a 6' (maybe) qb in new orleans sure is doing a good job...

Unfortunately, I think you are right. That puts us as a 8 or 9 win team again next year. It's just not good enough.

There's a pretty good 6' QB playing just down the street in New Orleans at the next level.

The "obvious" isn't what's painful. It's probably a tumor that is located in an area of the brain that makes you post stupid things.

Which is proven by the fact that Jarrett Lee started 2009 season as LSU's starting QB...
