What exactly were Miles' mistakes in clock management in the Capital One bowl and what precisely would you have done differently? The only thing I saw that was questionable on Miles' part was reviewing the fumble and losing a timeout. Had Ridley been honest with himself and told Miles that he actually fumbled, we would have had that timeout back. The refs were slow in spotting the ball on LSU's last drive and should have not called the penalty on Hitt. Instead they should have called a delay of game on Penn State. I don't have a DVR anymore, so I can't go back and look at when the refs spotted the ball after that penalty and how many seconds actually ticked off before the snap. Overall, it looked the team was trying to hustle to get to the LOS and get the next play off. The personal fouls on Hitt was severe and unwarranted and killed any chance of getting into field goal range. Penn State is bending over backwards to downplay the significance of that play with both Paterno and Sean Lee saying they "did not see the play" and downplaying if the Penn State defender was intentionally preventing the ball from getting spotted. So it's not ok to be tired of an incompetent coach??? I guess you wish DiNardo, Brady, and Smoke were still around? So what color kool aid do you prefer?
I have some issues with that coach who left his team high and dry before the BCS bowl game for a more lucrative job at ND. Not healthy for college football. The LSU team just ran out of time with their comeback; part of the blame is the slow or non start of the offense for the majority of the game, and the costly drops AND the penalties. I was quite a bit annoyed at the multiple low throws by JJ in the first half; whereas PSU's QB seems to throw the ball high! It seems PSU executed slightly better than LSU. With the bad conditions settling down in the second half, it was nice to see the comeback to make the game look a bit more respectable. Too bad the horrible field condition took away LSU's edge in speed, and what the skill players could have been able to do. After watching the game, I truly felt that LSU could have won the game had it been played on a dry field or on artificial turf. I would have loved to see the game replayed in optimal conditions for both teams to show what they've got. Therefore I don't feel as much of the sting of the loss; it was just a lousy bowl site(shameful) for such a big bowl game to be played on (multiple high school championship games played in a short period plus the recent bowl game several days earlier). Also, the officiating was weak!!! The personal foul call on Hitt was what stiffled LSu's comeback attempt. Just a very bad call at such pivotal moments of the game. Even the PSU player admitted after the game that he was trying to waste time by pinning Lafell on the ground.
I completely agree with all your points:thumb: I don't how we can just throw Crowton under the bus when we don't consider the many other factors, most importantly, the players playing up to their potentials. The team has yet to gel together. Crowton has been the common denominator for the past winning seasons, esp. with the previous impressive NC and Bowl wins. The drop off last season was mainly due to the unfortunate situation with Lee thrown in too early, and this year, due to JJ's progression rate, and problems with the O-line after loosing some key O-line players like Big Herm, and the center. One good sign was the O-line was starting to play better towards the end of the season. One can always blame the coaches for not coaching up the players (which could have been part of the factors); but there is the big intangible as to how well the players can be coached(mental) and how well they are able to play with each other as a team.
Dinardo - No Brady - Yes (better than current coach) Smoke - Don't care much about baseball but obviously PM is outstanding
Whether you guys hate Dan or not, he has a point on this one thing and Im sure it has been pointed out over and over again LSU deserves a coach that will not call a slip screen in the middle of the field with less than 30 sec. left in the game with no TOs This is something you just dont do in that situation, we did the total opposite in the Arky game, were we threw out routes to get out of bounds. I cant explain that WR slip screen at all.
I dont think Ridley is as bad as you allude to here. I think you give our O line too much credit and none to Penn state's Defense. Ridley has shown he is very nearly as good as Scott and KW off the bench. Miles has issues playing younger talent. its always good to have a stable of very near equal talent RB's since it is an injury prone position. I doubt if you asked Miles that he would say Ridley was buried in the depth chart, he would probably say Scott and KW deserved their time to play.... typical Miles coach speak. He likes to play the SR guys always has, with few exceptions. In the grand scheme of things, Ridley wasnt any better than Kw or Scott so why not just stay with the starters? Miles philosohy. Myself I'd prefer Miles play the RB with the hot hand whoever that is, Mix it up some, find out who is hungry. From what we saw earlier after they HAD to put Ridley in during the regular season, he was hungry. Sure at some point one might emerge as a leader, no one is equal. I didnt see that from Scott this year largely because he had no hole to go through. he can drag players if he has a little momentum past the LOS but if hit in the backfield, few RB's are good enough to shake that off. Its more timing than skill I think all of those guys have skill yet different styles. The bigger issue was our O line could not push Penn state off the ball, hence any Rb would have issues.
