i have been thinking that all season. hes ok for football. but for baseball he is just plain terrible any more.

i know a lot of people dont like hanigriff, but i like him. he has a dry sense of humor and he cracks me up at times.

You have to love the "SWING andamiss". I also think it's funny when he hangs up on the callers on his postgame show for football (i.e.: when people were calling about putting in Perrilloux last year, or putting in Flynn the year before).

Hawthorne, for an entire generation of fans, is LSU Sports. Screw the occasional misspeaks and lapses. I don't want to have to break in a new Voice of the Tigers. Took me years the 1st time. By the way. The same things were said about John Ferguson toward the end of his career.

I grew up listening to John Ferguson and Walter Hill on Saturday nights. Even after I relocated to Colorado in the '70s I was still able to catch them on a 50,000 watt station out of Schreveport.

I've listened to a couple of Hawthorne broacasts and to be honest, he's terrible. I don't know if I caught him on a couple of bad nights but I was amazed he was the lead announcer for LSU sports.

    You are right:grin:

I have no idea why we wouldn't change the time under the circumstances. Ordinarily I could understand interrupting the routine if the game meant anything but we were already eliminated from the tourney so why differnce would it have made. In any event I think we will have a new coach after the season is over. Coach Slater just can't hack it. Not even making the SEC tourney four years in a row is pathetic.

Interesting. Did Ferguson do baseball as well? I don't remember.

Auburn is going to have a nice team next year. You're starting 5 freshmen and your young pitchers are very good. You got rid of the last coach and look how long it took to build this solid nucleus. I wouldn't pull the trigger just yet. From what I've seen this weekend, if their defense was shored up they'd be in the post season this year. I understand fan frustration, though. Some were ready to dump Manieri less than a month ago.

That's a good question. I'm not even sure LSU baseball games were broadcast back then.

Correct. I remember last weekend the ask the announcer question was asking how it felt to be calling the last series at the box. Hanagriff handed the question off to Jimmy and said that it was only fitting since he had been calling the radio broadcasts of the baseball games from the start.

I have two words here...Harry Carey, for crying out loud. Who cares if it isn't verbatim...it's Hawthorne! I wouldn't want to listen to another announcer for football, baseball, OR basketball.

    I love this one...

"Tip up no good, tip up no good, TIP UP NO GOOD!! MY GOODNESS!!"
