Sorry to inflict this on everyone but most threads have been to attack and defend one or the other. This one is to reflect on the two together and their time at LSU. In many ways I have been a defender of JJ through these debates. It wasn't because I thought he was a great QB but I trusted (still do) CLM's evaluation of the two. My defense was and is mainly to what I thought were strident, emotional and personel attacks on JJ. I deplore them. I have always felt JL had an inherent reaction to flinch under pressure. The Nov 5 game is a perfect illustration. I saluted him and still do for trying to overcome something in his lets say DNA and to face all that he has. That does show bravery and character to the highest degree. That being said my eye tells me neither has a snowball's chance in the NFL. JL may get a tryout to be a camp arm and JJ a tryout at another position as he has less chance of making an NFL QB than JL. Both deserve our thanks and esteem for giving their all and perservering through the turmoil. No one can really ask for more. Let's drop the subject and begin anew with the bright future of 2012. Always :geaux:
Winston .. I think this whole .. "Lee is afraid to be hit" .. is a false perception created by the Lee detractors. I've seen him take plenty of hits. In the Bama Game .. he didn't have time to get happy feet. They sacked him before he could get happy feet. The defining factor between the two QBS ... JJ was a narcissists, JL was not. As a consequence .. JJ did not have the brains to play QB ... JL did. JL had issues .. but the number one issue he had was the one of looking over his shoulder because he knew CLM was itching to get his pet back at the helm .. and Lee knew that CLM was not going to call a game that played to Lee's strenghts. For that matter .. the entire playbook was designed for JJ. We had no quick TE routes. No bump and run, quick RB routes. We barely even had the quick curls or out patterns for the WRs. I know damn well I could have beat Bama .. both games .. with Jarrett Lee as the QB. I don't know that I could have with JJ ... simply because he wanted to be the star, as opposed to be the QB. ... and his windup is so slow that he'd be less effective on quick short routes without telegraphing the play.
No I started it because I am tired of and disgusted with the anger and hate directed at the two. As I said they gave their best and deserve the same thanks as have been given more popular players.
OK I'll participate. I would first thank them both for their contribution, they won a lot of games for us. As Tigers I will always respect them regardless of my opinion of how they played QB. I think something was going on with these two guys that we may never know and I am not going to beat it to death trying to figure it out. I am glad we have turned the page on this part of our football team and I am looking forward to the next chapter of some great LSU football.:geaux: I wished them both good luck at fan day and I continue to hope they find their niche in life and become productive members of society.:thumb:
I feel sorry for both of these young men. The pressure it takes to play the QB at their level is unbelievable. No, neither may make it in the NFL, but they did their best! Neither tried to go out and lose a game for the team. I wish them both success.
