Going into this season and you thought 9-3 would be a bad thing? With this schedule? I thought 8-4 would be more where we were headed. I felt more optimistic about that until about the end of the 3rd quarter. Now I think I might have been right. If we end up 9-3 I'll be okay with that for this year. Next year we better see 10 wins or more though.
Since you didn't get to see the majority of the game, the viewpoints here may be difficult to sift through. When he mostly stared down his receivers was later in the game when we responded to the pressure they were putting on him by only having 2 wideouts, and keeping more blockers at the LOS. If you have only 2 wide outs, you're going to stare down one of them, LOL. He definitely hung on to the ball too long when there we had 3-4 wideouts. I chalk that up to this being his second game, only been with the program for a few months, still trying to get the system and timing down. The more reps/duration with the offense the smoother things will look. Also, it was his first time in TS. People here just have a hard time managing expectations with what they then see on the field. Give it time. We'll be fine against AU regardless of what Izzy thinks. Tunes will change after next weeks game.
They'll coach him to slide. The first run, he looked like he was about to slide, then thought he could score, so he made a spontaneous/adrenaline decision to keep running. The second time, not sure. He should have slid. The thing about all of this critiquing is that this is not a vacuum. This is not static. We game planned for Miami for weeks, were pumped up, a bit healthier, etc. While SELA is an FCS school, they had QBs that were 4*s and look like they had some meat on the lines. How much film do you have on an FCS school? How pumped up do the players get when AU is looming next week? We had injuries and suspensions. 2nd and 3rd stringers played a majority of the game, and our QB has been with the team for a few months. Should we have had 500 yards of offense, and won 55-6? Yes. That we didn't, but won 31-0, is a good thing overall. Burrow learning in game #2 against SELA that he needs to slide, is a lot better than him learning it in game #3 against AU where he may get knocked out. Seeing tape of himself hanging onto the ball too long, and staring down receivers against SELA is hopefully something he learns from and develops strategies/habits to avoid that against stepped up competition. Mistakes happen in the first few games, then you work on that and iron out the kinks. This is not new. We have looked bad before in games against a lesser competition one week, then looked like world beaters the next week. Hang in there. We'll be fine. I think our Tigers will make us proud next week with their effort.
Well, maybe he won't learn to slide, see vid below. Hopefully, the coaches convince him otherwise and talk some sense into him. Otherwise, Brennan better be prepared.
Guess we might see Brennan then. If he isn’t going to slide he needs to run lower and take a hit better.
If we go 8-4 fielding a Les Miles offense, I’ll be pretty annoyed. That was not an optimized offense.
To me this could go 1 of 2 ways a close game pick em, or an Auburn blow out. And no it’s not me just being negative because of the coaching staff. That’s just the way this series seems to go. It’s either a slobber knocker or a rout. And with the depth problem LSU is facing and being that it’s Auburn, a place where LSU typically plays poorly, bad feeling.
