The football team has problems. The team's performances against Florida and Georgia revealed to us all the symptoms of these problems.

First, the defense is not very good. Good offenses hang points on the board faster than a professional laundry person can hang clothes on the line. They pile up yards and points at a pace that is alarming and unmatchable by a team with two inexperienced quarterbacks. The players play the schemes they're given and I have no doubt they want to win. There's sufficient talent on the field to man a good defense, but it's not happening. As I said in my previous post, it's time to euthanize the two headed monster that is masquerading as defensive coordinator. Those guys aren't scheming well and they seem to be doing a poor job of teaching. Time for a change. This defense is burdening a young offense beyond its capabilities and the stress is too much for it to handle.

The offense often appears inept. It's handicapped with two inexperienced quarterbacks and the coaches haven't helped with their substitution scheme, which seems to have robbed both of their confidence. Hatch can't throw and Lee can't find a receiver with the same color jersey as his. When he does, the receiver often drops it. When the offense gets into a rhythm and starts moving, Crowton either sends down a play from hell or changes the quarterback, destroying all continuity and rhythm. Drive stalls. Lee goes into 911 mode, we either end up with a pick or have to punt.

The offense has a tendency to put itself into holes that require heroism to escape. Not a good thing, as the defense is doing a good enough job of that!

Plugging in new players is not the answer. They'll just do what the current ones do: play what they're given. The staff need to change what the players are given and perhaps the results will change.

I am not a coach and don't pretend to know more than those guys, but it seems to me they're outsmarting themselves just about every game and our opponents are loving it. It might just be time to get back to basics; blocking, tackling and playing the kind of hard hitting football the Tigers have played in championship seasons. It might be the time to simplify things, cut out the extraneous, silly stuff and start doing the things they do well and to concentrate on that so that the team has a shot at winning big games.

Obviously the football team has problems or it wouldn't be making so many mistakes.

That's the only problem, they make mistakes.

The execution is bad right now. That's either attributable to youth or coaching but either way it's correctable.

I think we'll have everything straightened out by season's end. Remember this team should have 1 more game under it's belt that everyone else got.

I don't really know if we're outsmarting ourselves coaching wise, but there have been a few calls I've disagreed with. Blitzing Patrick Peterson twice on 3rd down when he's already our best coverage guy was one of them....Trying to throw deep when it's 21-17 and we're moving the ball again is the other....

But then again, with more experienced players those calls wouldn't look so bad. Let's hope the bleeding stops here but remember that this is a rebuilding year, and even great programs lose some games in a down year. (see Florida, 2007)

youre overreacting. UGA is a great team. the game was a wash except for the QB position. one has 2 1/2 yrs experience one has 1/2 yr experience----guess which team won.
