19 year old kid passes for 58%, 3 touchdowns, no picks... I'll take that every week... Running game averaged 5.1 yards a carry... I'll take that every week... The defense was suspect, but I put that on a new coordinator and inexperienced line, both of which will progress forward through the season... My biggest complaint is Helton, the punter. Many people wondered why Miles gave a scholarship to a JC punter who averaged 30 yards per punt... And now he is still averaging 30 yards per punt...
And on the first game of the season. Yes, I'll be glad to average 5.1 yards a carry all year. ldskule:
I have to single out Coleman because he played great at LB for his 1st game. He had a few great rushes off the edge and put on the pressure and was flying across the field.
Jefferson is still yet to see significant playing time at Tiger Stadium. For all the good he's done and all the composure that he's exhibited, it's all been on the road, and on national TV. I think that says a lot about what the future holds for the young man. And yes, while Toliver was the beneficiary of a terribly overmatched secondary last night, we at least know that Jordan plans to get him the ball frequently. And that can only be a good thing. Dude showed last night that he's got some deadly hip-action, particularly for a guy his size.
I just watched it again on ESPNU and I don't think we looked bad at all. If you just look at the game itself and forget all the pre-game hype, it was a great game between two good teams. Washington this year is a lot better than Washington last year. I think watching it again without the preconceived notion that we will blow them out gives you a much more realistic view of the game. We have much to improve on and we better do it fast. The good thing is we have a lot to work with.
