I used to live in Jacksonville, back when urban Meyer was giving us hell. I think we might have won one or two while I was there.
From the 1930’s Ole Miss has been the most intense rivalry. It’s only with the rise of the Tigers beginning with Saban and the Rebels’ fading as an equal competitor that the rivalry faded. The competition in the late ‘40s the late ‘50s- 60’s was as intense as or more than Alabama or Florida today. I remember Tiger stadium shaking under the roar of GO TO HELL OLE MISS, GO TO HELL!
I don't think Alabama will give Kiffin a serious look because he's still showing signs of being very immature. Before the Alabama-Tennessee game, he posted, "Let’s both beat the state of Alabama today. Go Vols." After the game, he then posted, "Go Vols." I can guarantee that did not go over well with the Alabama fan base and the higher ups. IMO, Kiffin has a better chance of being struck by lightening than being the next HC at Alabama.
I grew up listening to John Ferguson & Walter Hill call the action on the radio. Those were the days.
https://crescentcitysports.com/lsu-ole-miss-remembering-the-night-the-clock-stopped-50-years-later/ Excellent article on the 1972 game. Particularly the last paragraph "For a few years following the game there was a sign on the Louisiana-Mississippi border which read, “You are now entering Louisiana. Set your clocks back four seconds.”
