http://hottytoddy.com/2015/09/23/ol...unched-by-angry-bama-fan-after-ole-miss-game/ There are a few holes in the story. Like, this guys friends didn't do anything to the attacker, the police were never called and fans on the Alabama side are saying the guy was provoking "getting punched in the face". Regardless, you should never assault someone over a damn football game although I have experienced some pretty terrible fans of Ole Miss and Alabama after both wins and losses. Every fan base has their asshole fans. I remember a group of Tiger fans harassing this older couple after the Florida game back in 2009 where I had to step in and get them to back off. I had an obnoxious Wisconsin fan try to fight me at NRG Stadium last year in the 3rd quarter while Wisconsin was still winning. Either way, its a damn football game.
In 2011...only incident we had was a guy in the Hounds tooth Bar started getting aggressive with an older lady in our group while we were waiting in line to get in. I ended that quickly and he was kicked out and we took his spot in the bar. After that there were too many grown men crying in that bar for the men to get aggressive at the time. Their women were comforting them. Very odd scene.
We needed the TVs and we were following the tail...sometimes you have to make sacrifices. But yea the place was a dump.
A few side notes from my comments above: I want to say that most of the Wisconsin fans last year were awesome. Me and a Wisconsin guy in the row above me were taking turns getting beers and paying for each others. I was headed to the bathroom in the 3rd quarter when a Wisconsin fan purposely slammed into me and started mouthing off until his friends grabbed him and took him away. Also the Florida fans that were being harassed were walking along Nicholson Dr. (30) to head down Gourrier to the Alex Box parking lot back to their vehicle, and that section of tailgating along Nicholson obviously gets pretty rough with the youngsters partying. Its just a damn shame that people get like this over football games. Some fans get jumped and killed out in California over ball games. I have 2 daughters and I am extremely hesitant to ever take them to an away game wearing purple & gold. Its truly pathetic that I would have to have that concern.
It's always difficult to know how much these type of stories are exaggerated. For the LSU/OK championship game in Jan 2004, we met a lot of Sooner fans that said the LSU fans were really nice and outgoing during the entire weekend leading up to the game. After the game, there were some serious accusations from Sooner fans and hard to tell if they were accurate (although Nola plus LSU fans and all other "new" LSU fans from the Gulf Coast looking to party for a night makes it possible). The passion for football in our country is good and bad. Most of the time, the good fans will keep their own bad fans in check. The NFL has a bigger percentage of "bad" fans and it's a good thing that most of their games are early in the day on Sundays. Could you imagine if NFL games had more night games with everyone drinking for hours leading up to the game?
Most of these stories are exaggerated. But there are asshole fans in every football crowd. Among LSU's tailgating crowd are folks that just come to campus to party without game tickers and sometimes hooligans come along. It was getting kind of bad several years ago after the Auburn cigar and logo stomp incidents incited home fans. Sometimes roving bands of non-student drunken fools come to campus looking for trouble. Skip Bertman got LSU to put the brakes on that by stepping up police presence before and after the game and getting very strict on misbehavior and public drunkenness. Longtime LSU tailgaters stopped putting up with it and phoned in complaints to the police, who cleaned up the trash. Some other schools need to take measures as well.
