Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? But at that point we're comparing Flynn's first season with JR's 3rd season. I'm not convinced we average 40 ppg even with the senior version of JR in 2007.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? JR had a way of pulling out games, though. This thread talks about it. Don't get me wrong. I loved Matt Flynn. But Russell was really special--even though reading these old threads reminds how maligned he generally was while @ LSU.
I felt like the entire team was somewhat lacking. Look at that Oregon State game, for instance. They all came into camp that year fat and out of shape. I'm sure that was one of the '08 team's myriad problems, as well. Plus, Saban had one foot out the door that whole season. Marcus Randall was a problem. It was a pity he couldn't have played DB or WR. He really was a good athlete, but QB was a stretch for him.
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? You can't just compare QB's, JR played in the Jimbo Fisher system, and Matt Flynn played in the Gary Crowton system. I'd take Crowton any day and twice on Sunday. LSU may have won it all in 2006 if Crowton had been here, maybe .... :geaux:
Re: How do you honestly feel about JR? Good point. We'd likely have won @ AU, and even if we lost in the Swamp, we could've taken them in the rematch in the Georgia Dome. That would've given us the opportunity to beat that Ohio State @$$ two years in a row!
