Tirk, this is so right-on...til that last line. But we were hopeful for that guy back then, weren't we?

    or possibly this part:

"jamarcus could be one of the best qbs to ever play given his unmatched physical abilities or could become one of the biggest busts next to ryan leaf. However, the one thing I do know is that when he's gone we will certainly be much more appreciative of just how good and talented of a qb he really was."

Matt Flynn led LSU to a national championship the next year, and with comparable offensive weapons that JR had in 2006, Flynn led LSU to a scoring average of 7 points more per game. So the what if's still apply.

No, I agree with that part of Tirk's post as well. Yes, we won the BCSNC with Matt Flynn, but I've wondered if the road would've been as bumpy getting there if Russell had come back for his senior year. I think he was just hitting his stride when he went to the NFL (which I don't blame him for doing, as he was the #1 pick.)

You know, I've always wondered what could have been had Matt Mauck come back for his senior year.

That's an intriguing question, too, though the '04 team played uninspired football, much like the '08 team.

Was it really the entire team, though? That '04 defense was top 3 in the nation. I thought our biggest problem that year was Marcus Randall. Granted, we lost to Georgia by about a billion, but the only other regular season loss was a 1 point, he-got-penalized-for-what?! loss at Auburn.
