I agree with you. I meant "go away" in the sense that they will stop this needless criticism and support JR as LSU's #1 QB.

It's hard for me to not be curious if Flynn would be more consistent. I wonder if a consistent offense with the defense that we have would be greater than what we have now. Mauck made mistakes but was more consistent against solid competition. At least in my eyes. When I see Russell throwing into double coverage, resulting in an interception, consistently throwing behind the receiver (I can only think of a handful of passes, almost all bullets squeezed into a tight space, that were on target), well covered receivers making great catches, and throwing a wobbly duck up for grabs in the field of play after getting hit, I seriously wonder if Flynn could do better.

Obviously we would miss his arm, but I'd take more consistency if it equaled success. It would be a ballsy move by the coach, I admit, and a very difficult call to make. Faced with the decision I think it would be hard for me to pull the trigger. It is too late in the season now, but I think I would have started Flynn against one of our lesser opponents and let him work into a start against solid competition, with Russell ready to come in if we need him. If anything, maybe seeing things from the sideline would help Russell.

I don't fault Miles for not doing this, but it is difficult not to be curious.

You're right lsu-i-like, it is something to ponder had Flynn started this year, where LSU would be.

And your likeness of Flynn to Mauck is an accurate one I would say. Not a great arm, but a smart QB with an added ability to move and run when necessary.

Mauck, however had a great running game behind him to keep defenses honest. JR doesn't have such a luxury. A lot of that has to do with not trusting the great freshman RBs (Williams and Scott) early in the season to take over as the horses in our running attack (as well as Holliday on the trick plays). Unfortunately this wasn't realized until the Tennessee game.

JR, however has the best WR corps in LSU history. These guys are talented beyond anything we have ever seen at LSU, making JR look great, even when he is wildly inaccurate.

Knowing what LSU has done defensively (which is dominate pretty much every single opponent this season), a steady QB that manages the game very well (in the same style that Mauck did) could have been the answer to an undefeated season. We will never know obviously.

I respect you greatly for having this attitude. It's what this country is founded upon, freedom of speech.

That being said, I hope JR carves the Alabama and Arkansas defenses up for 4 touchdowns apiece with no INTs, leaving every one of the detractors (which includes myself) agasp. I don't mind my jaw dragging on the floor. And I love the taste of crow. Heckle and Jeckle used to be my favorite cartoon when I was growing up.

    And that's real.

I just want to add, though I seem pretty rough on Russell, I'm glad to have him and I hope he continues to improve. And all reports seem to indicate he is a decent person, which isn't something to be taken lightly in the world of college football today. I don't hate him starting, I'm just curious.

Bah...it's pointless. Sort of like wondering what life would be like had Al Gore won.

I didn't say you were viewed as anything. I just asked a questions. Which you didn't answer.

    I don't honestly know, because I haven't watched before 1990.
