    A few people neeed to get their heads out of their asses and stop looking at just the stats against Top-10 teams on the road.

    Pass Efficiency Rating

    A measure of the quarterback's effectiveness in the passing game. To determine pass-efficiency ratings points, multiply a passer's yards per attempt by 8.4; add the number obtained by dividing pass completions by pass attempts, multiplied by 100; add the number obtained by dividing touchdowns by pass attempts, multiplied by 330; and subtract the number obtained by dividing interceptions by pass attempts, multiplied by 200. A passer rating of 100 or better is considered terrific in the NFL. A rating of 158.3 is considered perfect in the NFL. However, certain percentages in the NFL are capped, although the same measures are used. The NCAA formula is shown below.

    ER = TY/PA*8.4 + PC/PA*100 + TD/PA*330 - I/PA*200,
    where TY=total yards; PC=pass completions; PA=pass attempts; TD=touchdowns; I=Interceptions, and ER=Efficiency Rating

    ER=(TY*8.4+PC*100+TD*330-I*200)/PA

    Found this on another board, thought it to be a very good post & figured I would share.. Posted by C Parso as well.....

    In the 20 yrs before Miles arrived, LSU managed 2 wins in 10 games against the Top 10 on the road. It had been 12 yrs since LSU beat a Top 10 team on the road (St. Nick was 0-2 losing by an avg of 18 pts). In the last two seasons under Miles and Russell, LSU is 2-2 against Top 10 on the road.

    Last season, LSU beat Aub, Fla and Bama in the same season for the first time in history. This season LSU beat Tenn in Knoxville for only the second time in history. It is the only season in LSU history in which the Tigers played 3-Top 10 teams. It will be the only season in LSU history in which every road game will be against a ranked opponent, possibly all 4-Top 10 teams.

    J. Russell has led 4th quarter scoring drives for victories 7 times already in his college career. Only 4 qbs in the history of LSU football have led their team to victory more often than Russell (21-4). In fact, there is a chance that only two (Hodson and Tyler) will have more career victories than Russell at the end of his JUNIOR season.

    The purpose of this post is not to debate the merits of Les Miles or Jamarcus Russell. It is to address those who claim to be fans the way abusive husbands claim to love their wives. If you are unable to enjoy this era of LSU football, history proves you are destined for disappointment and further misery. At what point did the joy of saying “I told you so!” or dissecting every imperfection outweigh the joy of victory? I really feel sorry for those of you who could not fully enjoy such a rare accomplishment in LSU history this weekend. At least there is some comfort for you in unceasingly criticizing the program you claim to support. One thing is certain, it is highly likely that your expectations will not be met again in the very near future – even in victory. History is in your favor.

    That's exactly right. I saw a replay last night on SEC Football roundup that I'd never seen before. It was from a camera in the back of the endzone and it showed the same thing. Unless Early drops or tips the pass, it hit's Bowe square in the numbers.

    Right, he doesn't need to protect the football better against Top-10 teams on the road. We shouldn't expect that from him.

    I posted this once before. JR got flushed from the pocket and the receivers broke off their patterns. This was not a designed play.

    You and islstl just like to "Yeah, but..." If JR had played a perfect game against the Vols, you would say "Yeah, but...why couldn't he do that against Auburn and Florida?" If he had played a perfect game against Florida and Tennessee you would say "Yeah, but...why couldn't he do that against Auburn?" If he had played a perfect game against all 3 top 10 teams on the road you would say "Yeah, but...why couldn't he beat Tennessee last year?"

    My diagnosis is painful hemmorhoids.

    ...........anyway, lets just face it, its a bummer that we are essentially out of the conference championship race and definately out of the national picture. I really thought going into this year we had a great shot at both. JR causes me near out of body experiences at times, but hell so did Hodson, Risher and Rohan. Its just football and I have come to accept over the last 12 months the buzz we had in 03 may not be replicated in my lifetime. When I was sitting in the student section in the early 90's I wished for a return to the type of success we are experiencing now. And hey, even though we thoroughly sucked then, we still filled the stadium, tailgated all day and partied like we were winners. So Damn we got it good now!

    This article is consistent with how people in the written media and radio view him as a whole. I think the point here is that whenever it's up to JR to make a big play, he will play like a cowboy. He's a high risk/high reward kind of guy, and you have to take the good with the bad.

    Some people really dislike JR's unpredictability but it appears it pays off more than it doesn't. JR does remind me of Vick in that you just have to let the guy play and try to tailor the offense to his strengths. There are some things that need work like the ball just spinning out of his hands as he goes to throw, but Les said they will try to correct that.

    Seriously this discussion about JR is ad nauseum now. I hope fans can just enjoy the rest of the season and let this go.
