Re: Josh Williford So, is anyone here upset about us taking Big 'Ford? I was reading some discussions elsewhere, and I saw a good deal of fellow Tiger fans are furious about how dumb our coaching staff is for taking this guy. Reading those discussions, I saw some good points on both sides, but none that led me to believe that Big 'Ford isn't a solid pickup for the Tigers. Anyone here have anything intelligent to contribute to this discussion?
Re: Josh Williford His film is from last year and his 1st year at a OL position. He came out of no where because he has been doing something right from then to now to impress the LSU coaches and other programs. Therefore, we get a guy who a ton of upside who can take his time to develop. He is a project and as parso mentioned LSU is in the position to take project on the OL right now and I am all for a gigantic one to take a chance on who also has versatility and quickness.
Re: Josh Williford Anyone here have anything intelligent to contribute to this discussion?[/quote] Some of the negative sentiments came because people said Bama and/or Auburn didn't offer him. There have been conflicting reports on how much interest they had in him. However, without pretending to know how many recruits Bama has room for this year, I do know that they finished with 32 last year according to Rivals. You would think that they wouldn't have a full limit of 25 this year so they may need to be a little picky. They already have 3 OL verbals so far. Another point is that little nicky's forte' is not OL. He knows DB's, but he left our cupboard of OL pretty bare when he departed. I know there are other coaches at Bama judging OL talent, but he is quite the dictator as we all know. If it comes down to making room for a DB or another OL in his class I think he would lean toward the DB.
Re: Josh Williford I saw this on another board and wanted to share it. "There's a simple reason why he didn't get offered by Auburn....He's too tall to chop block.":lol::hihi::cry::rolleye33: An article is also claiming that he is down to 330 lbs from 345 or so previously. This is a good sign that the kid is serious and is working to compete and better himself IMO. Sure beats showing up out of shape like some others who will remain nameless.
Re: Josh Williford People whine b/c they watch film from a lot of kids and they think they're experts. If this kid came to camp earlier and the coaches got a look at his feet, and feel that he's coachable they have to offer. He may not touch the field for the next few years, but his Jr and Senior year he could be dominant.
Re: Josh Williford An article in the newspaper quoted Josh as saying Miles let out a yell when Josh told him he was committing to LSU. He said he couldn't make out what Miles yelled. Perhaps it was another Wahooo!!, who knows. Anyway I think this gives insight into the fact that Miles really wanted this guy even though others may have doubts about his ability or potential. It seems that Miles is very excited about getting him which should be reassuring to people.
Re: Josh Williford That article also mentions 5.2 footspeed, which if accurate, is very impressive for a recruit his size. I agree, I think Miles is definately happy with Big Will. Ainsworth & Williford at OG & Lowe & Faulk at OT looks very bright for the future of our OL. I'd include Josh Downs at C, but not sure if he's gonna be C or a DT for sure. :tigereye:
