Damn that's rough, hope he gets through it and eventually gets back on the field. RIP to his grandfather.
Has anyone seen a story (link) of any kind? Could he just have been given a little time away to get his personal business in order? opcorn:
At the risk of being crass, I think there's more to this story. Losing a grandparent can be emotionally tough, and I don't pretend to know the situation. And it's none of my damned business. I just think there are more factors working here. Quitting is different - a LOT different - than taking a moment to gather oneself. He just gave up a full ride and membership on one of the decade's most dominant football programs. I'm not sure even the loss of a PARENT would make most of these kids full-up QUIT, I.E. turn the schollie back in. We may never know, though. And my thoughts, prayers and best wishes go out to Carneal. I really hope he finds his way back on the team. It's an opportunity of a lifetime.
I agree fully. I thought to myself quitting in response to the loss of a grandparent seems odd, for the lack of a better word. Seems something more going on there. If you are close to your grandparent, you would be saddened, and perhaps "dedicate the season", put initials on your shoes, or something, but quitting? Hopefully, he gathers himself, and makes his way back to that "opportunity of a lifetime" as you very appropriately put it.
