I live in the bible belt, and i remember many moons ago when i was in school there were tons of right wing teachers pushing their ideals on kids, but parents down here just accept it because that's mainly their ideals also.

you have no idea how accurate that statement is, which is pretty sad.

Many moons ago was just that, times have changed.
We didn't have school shootings back then either.

I have no way of knowing exactly how many teachers are on each side of the fence but most teachers in the public school system support the teachers union who support Democrats.
There have been plenty of news stories over the years that conservative students have been discriminated against by their teachers and some scared to speak out but some have come forward to tell their story.

Sure maybe I have only heard one side of the story, who knows.
But I know for sure this kind of stuff should never happen in this country from either side.
No wonder public education is way behind the rest of the world.

wasn't that many moons ago, at least thats what i would like to think i guess, i was in school in the 90's. I remember gun incidents at my school. It really depends on what part of the country you are in. I don't have a problem with teachers being socially liberal, and i don't mind teachers being fiscally conservative. If i were a parent of any kid with a teacher pushing ideals on my kid, i would just make sure my kid knows that there are many sides to every issue, and think about the pro's and con's of each side, and then form your own opinion on the matter. Now if my child was given bad grades for disagreeing then we have problems.

Well for me it was the eighties!
I don't think politics should be in the classroom when it is a math, science or english class period.
I have no problem with politics as long as its in its proper class, civics or something like that I guess.
Public schools are failing for many reasons in this country.
I don't know, maybe people are happy with the status quo?

eh, i don't know, i will have to get back to you when my daughter and nephews get to that age. Right now i am very happy with her progress, but she goes to private school, so i better be happy. I am raising her to be a free thinker anyway, so hopefully if some teacher tries to push ideals on her she will contest it every chance she gets. We'll see though.
