The BCS is just the winner of the Coaches Poll. The crystal ball has been around since 1986, long before the BCS. It's legitimacy in comparison to the AP is an opinion. Just like the polls are somebody's opinion.

It has been said before and it bears repeating. The NCAA does not recognize a champion in FBS football.

Arguing about who won a "championship" when one isn't recognized is stupid. Who cares?? They are all bull**** anyway.

Now, to the original question. Perception has changed because we have been mediocre the last two years. Last year, we were the 3rd best team in the SEC West. Year before, we were the 4th best.

Finishing behind Ole Miss two years in a row isn't going to get us preseason respect. However, the great thing about being in the SEC is that it doesn't matter. If LSU gets to Atlanta, they are virtually guaranteed of either playing in the BCS title game or a BCS bowl.

No the BCS includes computer rankings that are impartial, its not just the coaches poll. In any case it includes a game between #1 and #2 that produces a champion. Any argument after that is just about how to rank the rest of the teams.

It's a 12-team league. LSU is consistently in the SEC top tier in results and in recruiting. A disappointing year does not equal mediocrity. The SEC top tier has won 5 of the last 7 national championships and LSU has 2 of those.

Mediocre is Ole Miss, Auburn, and Arkansas.

Look, I'm not going to argue about the BCS. It's a horrible system. The trophy that you hail so much is the Coaches Trophy awarded to the #1 ranked team in the Coaches Poll. It is. Accept it or not, I don't care, but that's what it is.

Second, I said the last two years LSU was mediocre. I didn't say the last 7 years. I said the last two. Pervception has changed since 2007 because LSU has been mediocre since then.

The great thing about perception is you get to pick your own time frame.

Given the thread starter specifically mentions perception now versus two years ago, I have no trouble with the time frame.... nor the suggested change in perception.

Nor do I. Anybody who think we deserve tons of respect for the last two seasons are in a dream world.

In most polls we are in the teens. That's about right.

We are probably getting into semantics here, but the Coaches Poll is bound my contract to put the winner of the BCSCG at the top of their poll. Yes, the trophy is the Coaches Trophy, but the poll is a small part of a much bigger system. Prior to 1998, this trophy carried much, much less weight. Before that time, there had never been an agreement among all conferences and university presidents. That's what makes the BCS unique. It was the first time that every one of the major conferences were in agreement on the awarding of a national championship. With all of its flaws, it is still the best system we have had to date.

Our big contention here is that the PAC-10 was so indignant about releasing their champion from the Rose Bowl in order to play in a true national championship game throughout the Bowl Coalition and Bowl Alliance and then agreed to the terms of the BCS until it didn't suit them. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Now with the Coaches catching grief and under extreme scrutiny for some of their nonsensical and bewildering picks, how much longer can the "coaches poll" hang in there? Before you know it, it will just leave these Geek loading computer nerds. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

It's obvious from 99's exhaustive research, which I genuinely appreciate, can we not see how "All" these "Trophies" are to be appreciated and valued for the emotional excitement and physical pleasure associated with there ability to raise spirits, and direct attention to those inner most cravings that only.................................Anyway, thanks 99.
