Prior to the start of each game there are four officials on the field. How many are used during the game? To my novice eye it looks like three.
I think the fourth guy handles substitutions. It would seem as though another on the field would be useful. However, have you noticed how many times the one out there has gotten in the way?
there is 1 Ref, 2 linesmen and the "4th" official. The 4th is off the field at midfield. He keeps the benches in order, handles subs etc. that is about it.
one or two leagues are tinkering with the idea of also putting an official behind each goal. I would rather them put signals on the touchline and endline. But hey, extra eyes on the field can't hurt.
they are playing alot better this half you are right. bradley just had a nice look. just limit the unforced turnovers and keep doing what they are doing, and the States can win this one. Altidore almost scores, good no call. Now we have a set play.. lets get this one!! Damn!!!!
