This article looks to be straight from the horse's mouth, namely the Rose Bowl CEO Mitch Dorger. Draw your own conclusions... http://www.lsubeat.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061128/SPORTS0202/611280307
The concept that ND fans are wealthier than LSU fans and therefore more valuable to a bowl city is no longer true. It's true that ND has a national following and that it has had a fanatic fan base used to travelling well. However, the past few years of mediocre or poor play have taken their toll, and ND fans are more realistic than they used to be--some will be aware that the magic isn't going to work on Michigan this year, and will not want to watch a second drubbing at that close rival's hand. On the other hand, LSU's fan base has been very energized lately, due to the 2003 National Championship and the overall excellence of the program with Saban and Miles. LSU fans are chomping at the bit to travel to a western BCS bowl game, and the fact that this is the FIRST time LSU would play Michigan as well as its first appearance in the Rose would bring out fans who never bothered before. And it isn't true that ND fans are all college-educated wealthy people; ND is as close as there is to a working-class favorite in the Northeast (especially in the outer boroughs of NYC) and in Chicago, and LSU's fans compare very very favorably with those "subway fans" ND is so proud of. What I'm saying is that L'il Jules is about 10-15 years behind the times as far as what the city will get from an LSU visit. The ESPN crowd, however, may have reason to want ND over LSU. I don't think that the cooler heads (not the guys like Herbstreit who are just biased toward Ohio State and anyone who plays them every year) will be swayed by anything but ratings and "prestige", which may be on ND's side--I just don't know. I know that I scratch my head about NBC's deal with ND but I guess it must be profitable, so for that reason I can see that ABC/ESPN might want part of that action. Still, I doubt it is such a difference that the Rose would accept their desire over all the other factors which weigh heavily in LSU's favor. :crystal: ldskule:
sorry if i sound stupid, hush SF, but what does it mean when you "sticky" a thread? just curious. thanks.
"sticky" has nothing to do with the Arkansas Razorbacks, so lets put that rumor to rest it simply means we keep the thread at the very top of the forum, therefore it is seemingly "sticking" there.
that's my cousin, hijklmnop i sometimes use her to......dual processors, its the hottest thing going these days
