Just a question for someone who knows: Why do college players use aluminum bats? I thought those were for kids. Surely college guys can get enough bat speed with a big-boy bat, so there's gotta be another reason. Inquiring minds want to know. I hate that "chink" sound when the ball is hit.
The Geaux Zone has the complete game 2, 3 hour and 20 minute video available for free - LINK Opening the raw mms feed in windows media player will be much easier to use and should allow you to fast forward: mms://www.xosn.com.edgestreams.net/video90/VETCSLOLUTLUFQM.20090308021727.wmv Key time points (within a minute or two): 46, 1:11, 1:16, 1:21, 1:58, 2:17, 2:53, 3:07 Since I missed the game, it was nice to look in on what happened
How can you hate that noise. I love it. I used to love walking back to the parking lot after class and hearing them taking batting practice at the old box. Metal Bats Rock. :thumb:
It used to be that college used aluminum for the same reason high school and little league do: They last a helluva lot longer for not that much more than wood bats. Say what you will about wood being the "right" way to make a bat. You cant leave it out in the rain for a month a expect it to survive. Now that money is becoming less than an issue, there is another reason for keeping aluminum: balls go farther, which means there is more offense. It's what makes a 22-10 game a semi-common experience. With more pros preferring the thinner handles of Al bats and the whole breaking bat situation, I can see the chink moving into the pros in 10-15 years As for not liking the sound, there is just something wrong with you. There are maybe 4 sounds in the entire world that are better than the chink of al.
Three homers, three career at bats. That kid was insane. We were giving him crap out in right field, but when he ran out after he hit the third homer, we were going nuts. Not gonna make it today, but I made it out Friday night and Saturday. Friday night I got to sit in the Champion's Club (purple seats) and they were incredible. Got to love the private concession stand and being able to look to my right and be so close to CPM that I could have a conversation.
I'm not convinced the balls go much farther if at all. However, Aluminum bats have a much bigger "sweet spot" than wood. So the likely of giving it a ride is greater with aluminum. Meaning you can "miss it" and put it in the bleachers. But if you hit it right with wood, it'll carry at least as far as Aluminum. not gonna happen one of those sounds is the crack of a wood bat
Exactly...you wont hit it harder with Al...you will just hit it harder more frequently. As far as the Chink sound...greatest sound in the world. Well, only one sound I can think that I like just as much
I happen to LOVE that clank the aluminum bats make. As for why they use them? Probably less expensive than wooden bats? I don't know, really.
